SILICON:

• The second most abundant element in the earth’s crust

by mass, making up 25.7% of it.

• Metalloid and semiconductor.

• Rarely occurs as pure element in nature and more

widely appears as a compound.

• Most common form is silica.

• Discovered by Swedish Chemist Jons Jakob Berzelius

PROPERTIES OF SILICON:

• Symbol is Si and atomic number 14

• A hard and brittle.
• Blue grey metallic luster.
• Tetravalent metalloid.
• Melting point is 1687K
• Boiling point is 3538K
• Density is 2.32g/cm3
FLEROVIUM:
• Symbol is FI and atomic number is 114.
• It is named after the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions of
the joint institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, Russia.
• Discovered in 1998.
• Flerovium is a P-Block, Group 14, Period 7 element.
• Its atomic weight is 289.
WHAT IS DOPING?

  The use of a substance (such as an anabolic steroid or

serythropoietin) or technique (such as blood doping) to
illegally improve athletic performance. This is called as
doping.
 Why doping is used in semiconductors?
The process of adding substances to a pure semiconductor
for the purposes of modulating its ,optical and structural
properties is known as doping in semiconductors.
