Graphing Systems of Inequalities

This document provides instructions for graphing linear inequalities in two variables and determining their solution sets. It explains how to graph the boundary and shade the region of each inequality, and how to find the intersection of inequalities to get the solution set of a system. The steps shown include drawing each graph, shading the appropriate regions, and identifying where the shaded regions overlap as the solution set.

System of Linear Inequalities
 Ifthe 2 lines intersect at one point, the
plane is divided into 4 areas. The
solution could be found in one of these
areas.
 Often graphing and looking for
overlapping areas is easier than looking
at points in each region.
The set of all solutions of a system of linear
inequalities is called its solution set.

To graph the solution set for a system of

linear inequalities in two variables:

1. Shade the half-plane of solutions for

EACH inequality in the system.

2. The solution of the system of

inequalities is in the intersection of the
half-planes.
How are we going to
solve a system of
inequalities
in two variables by
graphing?
Steps solving system of inequalities in two
variables by graphing:
1. Draw the graph of each inequality on the same
coordinate plane. (using y=mx+b)
2. Choose at least two points/ coordinates on the
plane and set as a test point/s in order to
determine the solution of the inequality. (0,0)
TEST
3. Shade the appropriate half-plane.
4. The region where shaded areas overlap is the
graphical solution to the system. If the graph do
not overlap, the system has no solution.
Graph the system
