De Multiplex Er

A demultiplexer (DEMUX) is an electronic circuit that selects one of several input lines and outputs the signal through a single line. It has one data input, multiple control inputs that determine the output line, and multiple outputs where the input data is routed to the selected line. DEMUXs are used in communication systems to reconstruct parallel data from serial inputs and connect single sources to multiple destinations.

DEMULTIPLEXER

DEMULTIPLEXER

• Other Names;

i) DEMUX

ii) Data Distributor

2
De-Multiplexer
• De-Multiplex means ‘one into many’

• De-Multiplexer is a combinational Logic

circuit that receives binary information on one
input line and directs it to a single output line
out of many lines

3
DE-MULTIPLEXER
• De-Multiplexer is an electronic circuit that has
single Data input, ‘n’ Control inputs and max of
2ⁿ Data output lines
By the help of control inputs any one of the
data output lines can be selected at a time and
whatever the data, logic or signal applied on the
data input can be transferred to the selected
output
4
DE-MULTIPLEXER
• On the Data input of a De-MUX if we
continuously or permanently apply a logic, lets say
logic 0, then on selection of a particular o/p, logic 0
is transferred only to the selected o/p, where as
other outputs would be having logic 1

5
DEMULTIPLEXER
• ‘De-MUX’ is the short name of De-Multiplexer

• As Data applied on the Data input can be supplied to the

several data outputs of De-Multiplexer, it is also called as

‘Data Distributor’

1 to 8 De-Multiplexer
• A 1 to 8 de-multiplexer can be implemented
using two 1 to 4 de-multiplexers.
Implementation of large output de-multiplexers
becomes complex, so smaller de-multiplexers
are used to implement large de-multiplexers.

Applications of Demux

• A de-multiplexer is used to connect a single

source to multiple destinations.
• De-multiplexers are mainly used in the field of
the communication system.
• The de-multiplexer receives the output signals
of the multiplexer and converts back to the
original form of the data at the receiving end.
MUX & DE-MUX work together to carry out
the process of communication.

Applications of De-Mux
• A serial to parallel converter is used for
reconstructing the parallel data from the incoming
serial data stream. In this technique, serial data from
the incoming serial data stream is given as the input
to the DEMUX at regular intervals. A counter is
attached to the control input of the demux. This
counter directs the data signal output of the demux
where these data signals are stored. When all data
signals have been stored. The output of the demux
can be retrieved and read out in parallel.
