Basic Information
• Unreal Engine is a free-to-use game development engine owned
by Epic Games
• Released in May 1998
• The platform is known for its impressive graphical and lighting
capabilities
• Create a large variety of 3D, 2D, and VR game styles
• Consists of an input system that converts key and button presses
by the player into actions performed by the in-game character.
Programming language
Unreal Engine uses the text-based programming
language, C++. In addition, Unreal Engine uses visual
scripting called Blueprints which utilizes a faster
programming option via drag-and-drop.
Advantages of Unreal Engine
• Easy interface with which game development can be easily
started
• Has a node feature which allows game development without
writing codes
• Impeccable graphic quality
• Better rendering technology than other game engines
• Comes with pre-built game levels which gives an initial start to
the game developers
Disadvantages of Unreal Engines
• When you publish your game, you would need to pay a royalty
of 5%.
• Needs a high processor along with a dedicated graphic card and
memory.
• It consists of fewer assets because they upload a selected asset
after a thorough process.
• It is not preferable for small game development because it is
used by developers only when they want to create a big project.
Some of the famous games developed using
the Unreal Engine
• Fortnite
• Life is Strange
• Gears of War
• Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
• Borderlands 2
• Gears of War 3
• Mass Effect 2
