The document provides guidance for teachers on teaching the concept of timbre or tone quality at different grade levels. It suggests using familiar songs and recordings of sounds or instruments to help students distinguish between speaking and singing voices (grade 1), different voice qualities (grades 1-3), musical instruments (grades 4-6), and voice parts in SATB choirs (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass). Recordings should be played frequently so students can compare and note differences. Visuals may also accompany instrument demonstrations.
