• A process of communication involving a small number of
people who have specific roles, conscious & limited goals & a
restricted content focus.
• A planned conversation with a predetermined purpose that
involves asking & answering questions.
• A meeting of people face-to-face to accomplish a certain
known purpose @ to discuss about something.
INTERVIEWS
1. Walk-in interview: the candidate has already been informed by
the recruiting organization & has to attend the interview at the
stipulated time & day.
2. Phone-in interview: the candidate will be screen through the
telephone & if met their criteria, will be called to attend an
interview.
3. Write-in interview: the candidate will apply in writing & only the
successful ones will be called based on their application letter &
resume.
METHODS FOR SOLICITING
INTERVIEWS
A. Counseling Interview
Help interviewee deal with unpleasant emotions, feelings @
memories.
Directed at personal problems that interfere work performance.
Concerned with the welfare of both the employee @ the
organization.
There must be free exchange of info.

To evaluate & improve performance of workers.
Feedback on employee’s performance.
Discuss progress towards predetermined standards @ goals &

D. Orientation Interview
Explains new employees with their jobs & range of duties.
Provide desire/interest to learn and succeed.
Interviewer’s role as the info giver and to influence the behavior of
the new employee.

requirements of a particular job.
◦ To identify the best qualified people & to avoid complaints of unfair
employment practices.
◦ Main obj: to acquire necessary info to determine job suitability.
◦ Candidate wants to learn about the organization, employer wants to
learn about candidate’s abilities & experience.
◦ Employers may conduct 2/3 interviews before deciding.

qualifications for employment.
iv. Group interview
Meeting with several candidates to see how they interact.
Useful for judging interpersonal skills.
v. Stress interview
Set up to see how well a candidate handles stressful situation (qualification for
certain jobs)
Candidates may be asked questions designed to annoy or upset a person.
May be exposed to criticism or hostile reactions by interviewer.
