Lecture 2 Genaral Computing System

Embedded systems are specialized computers designed to perform dedicated functions, in contrast to general-purpose computers. Embedded systems are found in many devices such as phones, appliances, vehicles and industrial equipment. They contain microprocessors, memory, and input/output components on a single chip to perform specific tasks. Embedded systems are designed to be small, low-cost, low power consumption and to interact with the surrounding environment through sensors and actuators.

GENERAL-PURPOSE COMPUTERS
• Able to run a variety of
software.

• Contain relatively high-

performance hardware
components (fast processors,
data & program storage).

• Require an operating system

(OS).
