Polynomial Functions q2 Week 1

The document discusses polynomial functions, which are functions that can be written as a sum of terms involving powers of a variable x and its coefficients. A polynomial function can be written in different forms, such as P(x), f(x), or as a set of ordered pairs (x,y). The document also provides examples of expressions that are and are not polynomials based on whether they involve variables with negative or fractional exponents, variables inside radicals, or variables in denominators.

POLYNOMIAL FUNCTIONS

QUARTER 2 WEEK 1

TEACHER: JACKIE JOHN L. LLANORA

POLYNOMIAL FUNCTION

Is a function of the form

Where n= is a non negative integer

, …, are real numbers called coefficients
= leading term
= leading coefficient
= constant term

P(x) = 7 + 18 – 10x + 1
7 = leading term 5 = degree of the polynomial function
7 = leading coefficient
1= constant term
Standard form = if the polynomial is written in decreasing powers of x.
POLYNOMIAL FUNCTION

Other than P(x), a polynomial function may also be denoted by f(x).

Sometimes, a polynomial function is represented by a set P of ordered pairs
(x,y).

Polynomial function can be written in different ways:

f
y
An expression is Polynomial if:
• The VARIABLE has no negative exponent
