1.6. How Do I Get in To the Company?
After I have taken the request paper of internship from the school of computing of
DMU Institute of technology at the end of April 2014 E.C, we distribute the request
paper to many companies related to our department. From those companies, Injibara
university was the first company which accepted my requesting internship paper for
two months starting from July 11 to September 5 of 2015 E.C. and they announced me
by returning back acceptance paper to DMU Mr.Ermias, After I got the acceptance of
the company from the INU, and they told me that ICT center is divided in to three main
parts, network installation and configuration, system administration and maintenance
team then informed us that ours name list is on maintenance team leader office. And
we submitted it to the office, and then we met Adugna who is the manager of network
administration office at INU, and he welcomed us tenderly and explained what their
office performs and looks like. And he informed us that we are going to stay the
internship period at those three sections of the ICT center and he told us some rules
about the company when we are with them.
with the best wishes. After a day we met Mr. Adugna, manager of the network
administration office at INU, he welcomed us with full kindness and explained what we
will work on the internship period and informed us that we will be with his office for
the next two months and introduces us to all ICT experts and other stuff members and
we start our intern with eager on July 11. But to get this placement in the company it
was tedious we were spending a lot of time come and backs.

CHAPTER TWO

OBJECTIVE OF THE INTERNSHIP

2.1 Where the objectives achieved?

Generally the objectives of internship is to change the theoretical knowledge into practical
or real world life aspects and to solve problems. Beside to accomplish the general
objective of the internship. We accomplish the following activities those are:
Done all activities by current supervisor.
The Supervisor try to repeat the activity that we practice at the staff of the laboratory.
Make activity practically alone after seen the supervisor.
Follow the procedure of the activity that ordered by the supervisor.
. There is number of scientific, and professionals skills during the internship.
2.1.1 PRACTICAL SKILLS
The internship have the opportunity to connect the theoretical part with the current
practical parts .so, by the help of the internship instructors we gained knowledge about
real world practical skills.
2.1.2 ENTERPRENEURSHIP SKILLS

Entrepreneurship is initiating, doing, achieving & building an enterprise or organization

rather than just watching or describing one.
Due to this the good relationship between educational institution and business society is
very important for the purpose of implementing an internship program as a part of
curriculum and upgrade entrepreneurship
2.1.3 CHALLENGES DURING THE INTERNSHIP
 Disagreement of the organization for accepting this industrial linkage of the
organization and the higher educational institution.
 The organization staff members were not willingness to give enough information about
the organization.
 Lack of confidence ,afraid to ask crucial information
 Lack of practical experience from us
 We did not know a part of hardware and software completely
 Not enough software install on the lab computers
Due to the above challenges we have to gained experience’s like:-
we have to gained full confidence to make different activities & also the main things in
every activities means to achieve a goal we understand that every person respect others
and made different questions legally and respects method smoothly
Generally we were experience’s the following aspects
Cont………….
 between organizations. Understand the constraints of working life and functional
relationship within and
 Develop work attitude like self confidence
 Be oriented toward work proses
 We know the function of materials practically
 To know team work is important
 To improve our knowledge

The overall evaluation

• The internship provides a good opportunity for a student to link theory and
practice.
• In addition to this the internship provides an experience work habit for the future.
• However this internship has many defects including the university strategy up to the
hosting organization
Chapter three
Procedures you have been using while performing your work tasks, and Tools Used
for Network Installation

3. Procedures that we have used while performing our tasks:-

We made our relationship smooth with all of them.
First of all, before starting our discussion, we asked them the concept of what they are
going to discuss and we asked the question if it is not clear to us.
We take a note at every discussion.
We tried to relate the knowledge we got within the course we have learnt in class.

3.1 Activities Done by the Students During Practical attachment

During the observation data center of INJIBARA university there were different
networking devices like: -
Router 4300 series: - A router is a networking device that forwards data packets
between computer networks. Routers perform the traffic directing functions on the
Internet.
Figure 1.4 Router
Layer 3 Switches 3560: - A Layer 3 switch is a specialized hardware device used in
network routing. Layer 3 switches technically have a lot in common with traditional
routers, and not just in physical appearance.

Figure1.5 Layer 3 Switches

Cont…………….

Access Switch 2960: -The access layer, which is the lowest level of the Cisco three tier
network model, ensures that packets are delivered to end user devices. This layer is
sometimes referred to as the desktop layer, because it focuses on connecting client
nodes to the network.

Figure1.6 Acces switch

Media Convertor –fiber to LAN cable convertor: - A media converter, in the context
of network hardware, is a cost-effective and flexible device intended to implement
and optimize fiber links in every kind of network. Among media converters, the most
often used type is a device that works as a transceiver, which converts the electrical
signal utilized in copper unshielded twisted pair (UTP) network cabling to light waves
used for fiber optic cabling. The copper-to-fiber conversion carried out by a media
converter allows two network devices having copper ports to be connected across
long distances by means of fiber optic cabling.
Cont…………….

Network Toolkit: -The Network Toolkit app provides a series of tools for troubleshooting
networks. It includes tools for evaluating internet connection bandwidth, performing
pings, trace routes, DNS lookups, who is record checks and waking sleeping computers.
This kit was specially designed for the technician who is installing and maintaining
network systems and is the most basic kit of our three Network/LAN tool kits. This kit is
also available in Coaxial Network and Twisted-Pair versions.

Figure 1.8 Network Toolkit

Cont…………..

Fiber Optic Cable : Fiber optics, or optical fiber, refers to the medium and the
technology associated with the transmission of information as light pulses along a glass
or plastic strand or fiber. A fiber optic cable can contain a varying number of these glass
fibers -- from a few up to a couple hundred. The optical fiber elements are typically
individually coated with plastic layers and contained in a protective tube suitable for the
environment where the cable will be deployed.

Figure 1.10 Fiber Optic Cable

Cont………….

LAN Cat 6E cable (305-meter pack) full duplex copper/half duplex: -Category 6 cable,
commonly referred to as Cat 6, is a standardized twisted pair cable for Ethernet and other
network physical layers that is backward compatible with the Category 5/5e and Category
3 cable standards.

Figure1.1.1 LAN Cat 6E cable

Fiber Patch cord: - A fiber optic patch cord is a fiber optic cable capped at either end with
connectors that allow it to be rapidly and conveniently connected to CATV, an optical switch
or other telecommunication equipment. Its thick layer of protection is used to connect the
optical transmitter, receiver, and the terminal box. This is known as "interconnect-style
cabling".
Cont………………….

3.2 Tools Used for Network Installation

Some Tools that we have used during network installation are:
1. RJ45
2. Cable crimper
3. Cable tester.
TP-LINK, it is a hard ware device that allows wireless capable device and wired networks
connected through a wireless standard like Wi-Fi.
Cont..

PDU , hardware device like mobile charger that used to supplies power to TP-LINK

Cat 6e cable: In our filed practice I have used category 6e cables. This type of cable is
used to transfer high-speed data communications and its data transfer rate is 10-Gbps
Ethernet speeds can be reached without sacrificing the max cable length of 100 meters
Cont…
Cable Crimper : is a device used to peel cable cover and used to cut cable with equal size.
It is also used to add a connector to the end of a cable.

3.3. Type of Cable

There are two types of Ethernet network cables. These are: - Straight-through and
crossover cables. Both end of cable is called RJ45 connector.

1. Straight-Through Cable: I use straight-through cable to connect different type of

devices. Example. Switch to router, switch to pc, and switch to server etc. When I see
this cable both side (side A and side B) of cable have wire arrangement with the same
colour.in our field practice I use these type of cable.

Side A Side B
1. White/Green 1. White/Green
2. Green 2. Green
3. White/Orange 3. White/Orange
4. Blue 4. Blue
5. White/Blue 5. White/Blue
6. Orange 6.Orange
7. White Brown 7.white brown
8. Brown   8.brown

2 .Cross-Over Cable:

I use cross-over cable to connect the same type of devices. Example; Switch to Switch,
Computer to Computer, and Hub to Hub etc. When I see this cable both side (side A
and side B) of cable have wire arrangement with different colour.
Cont…

CHAPTER FOUR
Measures we have taken, conculusion, and recommendation

The first measurement we took to solve our first problem was using umbrella and taxi. For
solving the problem, we met them and discussed about it and finally we reach on decision
by setting time.
4.1 Improved Practical Skill In this internship
We get the chance to develop our practical skill. This internship is important for us to
increase our awareness in practical skill, to improve our knowledge in which situation and
to solve the problems, how to communicate the workers and the customer. Additionally, it
helps us to increase entrepreneurship Open a good and a best relation with another
stakeholder to develop the confidence to be alert to get information. It creates good
atmosphere to work after graduation.

4.1.1 Upgraded Theoretical Knowledge
We know that theoretical lessons have great difference from practical knowledge when we
see from different angles. Theoretical knowledge is gained from visualizing something
from what we understand and is weak to master or save.
Whereas theoretical knowledge is developed by practical it will be unforgettable, easily
and quickly understandable and the main tool for problem solving. It is very essential that
one should know the theoretical aspects prior to going for practice. As one should have
something to relate with what he is seeing on the company.
4.1.2. Improved interpersonal communication skills
Interpersonal communication is humanity’s most important characteristic and its
greatest accomplishment. It is human’s ability to turn meaningless grunts into spoken
and written words, through which they are able to make their known needs, wants,
ideas and feelings.
Skill building training improves communications abilities. Reading a handout may
improve our understanding and knowledge of the main concepts. But only reading will
not improve our communication skills. So, in order to develop our interpersonal
communication skills, we have to “learn by doing practical tasks”.
4.1.3. Improved Team Playing Skill
Teams need strong team players to perform well. Teams need people who speak up
and express their thoughts and ideas clearly, directly, honestly, and with respect for
others and for the work of the team. That's what it means to communicate
constructively. Such a team member does not have to be shy from making a point but
makes it in the best way possible in a positive, confident, and respectful manner.
4.1.4. Improved Leadership Skill
The skill of leadership is the ability of one’s to guide, control and monitor peers and
collages that are taking part in a given activity it may be in office or production area.
Educated, skilled and experienced man power is necessary for leader position because
the activity of the leader should be exemplary (model) for other workers
4.2 Conclusion and Recommendation

4.2.1 Conclusion
The internship has a great role on students because it provides the way to relate the
course taken in theory with real world experience. It is also useful to enable and develop
good work ethics and understanding. Furthermore, it is useful to identify the strengths
and weaknesses of the intern to work on.
Finally, most of the tasks that are performed in the office were related to field of our
study because of this we were so satisfied during our internship.
4.2.2. Recommendation
This internship is very important for students because it helps them to increase their
experience and skills. In order to produce knowledgeable and skillful students the
following points need the attention of the concerned bodies:
Hosting organizations should be voluntary to accept and train intern students at first.

And should provide good environment for the students. The materials should be
sufficient and functioning.
The employees should be punctual and have willingness to teach the interns.
Students should be responsible for the duties they are assigned and pay attention for the
practical work.
Above all the supervisors need to do researches to solve the problems they face like the
problems with the internet connection.
