This document discusses reflection of light and different types of mirrors. It describes plane mirrors, which form virtual images of the same size as the object. It also describes spherical mirrors, specifically concave mirrors which have a reflecting inner surface and convex mirrors which have a reflecting outer surface. Key terms for spherical mirrors are defined, including pole, center of curvature, radius of curvature, and focal length.

Reflection of Light
Light
Light is an electromagnetic radiation which causes sensation of vision Types of Mirrors
•1) Plane Mirrors
•2) Spherical Mirrors
•a) Concave Mirror
•b) Convex Mirror Plane mirrors
Plane mirrors are used in various
activities in our day to day life A mirror is made by coating the back surface of a flat and smooth glass piece with a thin, reflecting film of aluminum or silver Ray diagram of Plane mirror • In a plane mirror, the angle of incidence(I) is always equal to angle of reflection(r) • The image formed by a plane mirror is of the same size of the source • The image formed by the plane mirror is Virtual. Spherical Mirrors
• Generally, spherical mirrors are parts of a
hollow glass sphere. • The inner or outer surface of this part is coated with a shiny substance to produce a spherical mirror • Reflection of light takes place either from its outer or inner surface Terms related to spherical mirror • Pole(P): Pole is called the center of the mirror surface • Centre of Curvature(C): The center of the sphere of which the mirror is a part. • Radius of Curvature(R): The radius of the sphere of which the mirror is a part. • Focal Length(F) The distance between the pole and the principal focus of the mirror is called the focal length. Concave mirrors • If the inner surface of the spherical mirror is the reflecting surfaces, then it called a concave mirror Convex mirrors
If the outer surface of the spherical
mirror is the reflecting surface then it is called a convex mirror.
