Through the momentary ADC test switch, you do a


test if the aircraft speed is less than 50 kt and under
WOW condition.
This functional test first does all the functions as
normal mode. Then, the MADC will have values
defined in a table (See Maintenance Manual - Section

The normal operational mode for the AH-900 is the navigation mode, where all
the parameters are output. It is important to note that the AH-900 algebraically
adds computed magnetic variation from a magnetic variation topographical
map (MAGVAR) to true heading to produce magnetic heading. This magnetic
variation map is in tabular form and contains 1984 data points, spaced 5.625o
in latitude and longitude, extending from - 84.375o to + 84.375o in latitude. The
magnetic heading output is set to no computed data (NCD) at latitudes below
82o South, above 82o North and within both North and South magnetic polar
cut-out regions.

In the align mode, the IRU aligns its reference axis to the local
vertical and true north, and estimates the horizontal earth rate
components to compute latitude. The coarse-leveling operation
brings the pitch and roll attitudes to within 1.00 accuracy. This
operation is followed by fine-leveling and heading determination.

TIME TO ALIGMENT MODE

• At 0 latitude, the IRU aligns at a minimum of 2.5minutes.


• At 60 to 70 latitude, the IRU aligns in a minimum of 10 minutes.
• At latitudes greater than 70 , alignment is completed in a minimum of 15 minutes.
• At latitudes greater than 78.25 , the IRU is not certified for alignment.

To complete alignment, the IRU must receive a valid input


of the aircraft’s present position (latitude and longitude) from
flight management system (FMS)

If the pilot does not enter the present position during the
normal alignment time, the ALIGN annunciator flashes, and
the IRU will not enter the NAV mode until it receives a valid
input.

IRU accepts multiple entries of latitude and longitude. More


than one entry may be necessary to confirm, update, or
correct the position. However, the IRU does not accept new
position inputs until 2 seconds after the previous input. This
delay prevents the IRU from mistakenly interpreting burst
transmissions from an FMS or NDU as separate entries.
