Introduction To Computer

This document provides an overview of computers and information technology (IT). It discusses what a computer is, how computers have evolved, and what tasks computers can perform. It also summarizes a survey finding that employers want applicants to have basic IT skills like using spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software. The document then covers various uses of computers in fields like neuroscience, robotics, sports, and more. It describes how computers have become more powerful over time and how software directs what tasks computers perform. The input, processing, output, and feedback aspects of information processing are outlined. Finally, the document briefly discusses how IT is used in business functions.

What is a Computer ?

 A computer is an electronic device that can accept

input, process it and produce results as its output.

 The processing is carried out by a set of stored

instructions, called computer programs. These programs
are referred to as software.

 The physical components which allow the information to

be inputted, stored, processed and outputted are known
as the hardware.

Why are computers so powerful?
Efficiency & Effectiveness of a Other Capabilities of a Computer:
Computer are because of: • Perform high-speed, high-volume,
numerical computation.
• Provide fast, accurate & inexpensive
• Speed communication within and between
organizations.
• Reliability
• Store huge amounts of information
• Storage in
an easy-to-access, yet small space.
• Communication
• Allows quick and inexpensive
access
to vast amount of information,
