SAP MM (Materials Management) is a business software package used by companies for materials planning and procurement. It is part of the larger ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software SAP, which was founded in Germany in 1972 by five former IBM employees. SAP uses a 3-tier architecture with presentation, application, and database layers. It has gone through several versions and is now on SAP S/4HANA. SAP is widely used globally due to its integration capabilities, transparency, support for multiple languages and currencies. It has both technical and functional modules that require training to use.

In simple words, it’s a client server architecture.

R signifies Real-time system

Application layer – Backend screen – consultant screen
Database layer – where data stores
