What is an Electric Vehicle?
An Electric Vehicle (EV) is one that operates on an
electric motor, instead of an internal-combustion engine
that generates power by
burning a mix of fuel and gases.

Employment Opportunities in the Electric Vehicles Industry
● In line with the growing adoption of electric vehicles, India is expected to have 30%
of the vehicles on its roads to be electric or hybrid electric vehicles by 2030.
● Currently India has about 23 crore vehicles. One third of the vehicles by 2030
could amount to about 10 crore vehicles.
● Electric mobility can thus create millions of local, green, and highly skilled jobs.
According to the estimate of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship,
the EV industry alone will create one crore jobs by 2030. For every direct job, there
will likely be five indirect jobs in the society - this takes the number of total
employment by the EV industry to about 5 crores.

Programme Overview
Programme Overview
Electric vehicles are considered to be an important step towards mitigating dependency on crude oil,
protecting the environment and improving transportation sustainability.
Many manufacturers have made major investments in electric automobile technology opening up
employment and growth opportunities for individuals with knowledge in the required field.
● The programme will provide a basic understanding of the -working of the storage devices
from a single cell to pack level, duty cycles led sizing of storage,
-basics of power electronics (the branch of electrical engineering that deals with the
processing of high voltages and currents to deliver power that supports a variety of
needs) required for interfacing devices with drivetrain(parts that provide power to
wheels)
Programme Overview

● The programme content will also include various aspects of charging from device to
electrical grid level as well as an introduction to smart grids or V2G in case of electric
vehicles(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbyceAkPiAU)
net metering and system integration. Thus the programme is designed to provide a
comprehensive view of the E-Vehicle Technology to individuals and working professionals.
The programme will help to cater for the training and development needs of industry 4.0
and enable the participants to build the required skill set, capabilities and knowledge in the
e-mobility domain.(https://www.ibm.com/in-en/topics/industry-4-0)

The various initiatives taken by the government to promote electric vehicles in India are as follow:
● 1. GST on the electric vehicles and the chargers/ charging stations has been reduced from 12% to 5% and from
18% to 5%, respectively.
● 2. A notification has been released by the Ministry of Power regarding charging infrastructure standards
permitting private charging at residences and offices.
● 3. Battery-operated vehicles will be given green license plates and be exempted from permit requirements,
announced by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH).
● 4. A notification advising states to waive road tax on EVs has been issued by MoRTH, leading to a reduction in
the initial costs of EVs.
● 5. Model Building Bylaws 2016 was amended to establish charging stations and infrastructure in private and
commercial buildings by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
