Recap

One car with a mass of 400kg is traveling east at 20m/s and collides with
a car of mass 800kg traveling west at 15m/s. Assuming the collision is
completely inelastic, what is velocity of the first car after the collision?

Given:
𝑚 1𝑣 1+𝑚 2 𝑣 2=𝑢𝑓 (𝑚 1+𝑚 2)
𝑚 1 𝑣 1 +𝑚 2 𝑣 2
𝑢𝑓 =
𝑚 1 +𝑚 2
𝑢𝑓 = 𝑓𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑜𝑐𝑖𝑡𝑦 𝑎𝑓𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑐𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛
(400 )(− 20 )+(800 )(15 )
𝑢𝑓 =
400 +800

𝑢𝑓 =3.33 𝑘𝑔
A marble of mass 0.1kg falls off a bed with a height of 1.2m. What is the impulse
on the marble as it hits the ground?
g=10m/s^2

Given :
m=0.1kg
𝐼=𝐹 ∆ 𝑡=𝑚 ∆ 𝑣
H=1.2m
G=10m/s^2
𝑣= √ 2 𝑔h
𝑣 = √ 2 (10 )(1.2 )
𝑣=4.9 𝑚/ 𝑠

𝐼 =𝑚 ∆ 𝑣
𝐼 =0.1 ( 4.9 )= 0.49 𝑁 . 𝑠
Rotation of Rigid Bodies
Rotation of Rigid Bodies
 Rotational Kinematics
 A rigid body is one whose particles all have a fixed relationship to each other, and
it is non-deformable.
 In pure translation, a rigid body moves in line, all particles remain parallel to itself.
Each particle in the body undergoes the same displacement as any other particles
in a given time.
 In pure rotation, every particle in the body moves in a circle and centers of these
circles lie in a straight line which is the axis of rotation.
