• Duration: 7-10 minutes + additional 15 minutes preparation

• Divided into three parts

• Based on the course themes: identities, experiences, human


ingenuity, social organization, sharing the planet.

Preparation (15 minutes)
• You will receive five visual stimuli from two different themes
(photograph, poster, illustration, advertisement, etc.).
• These will be labeled in Spanish according to the theme.
• You can’t bring anything into the preparation room.
• You will have 15 minutes to make notes – maximum of 10 bullet
points, to be used as reference only and must not be read aloud as a
prepared speech.
Part I: Presentation
• 1-2 minutes
• Provide a description of the stimulus
• Relate the visual stimulus to the relevant theme from the course.
• Spontaneous and related specifically to the content of the stimulus.
Part 2: Follow-up discussion based on the visual
stimulus.
• 3-4 minutes
• Questions to initiate a conversation about the theme represented in
the visual stimulus.
• Seek clarification or extension on a point made by the student.
• Respond to ideas presented by the stimulus or the teacher.
• Connections and comparisons with the student’s other/own cultural
experiences
• Open ended questions – always explain why – assessment of
interactive skills.
Part 3: General discussion
• 3-4 minutes
• Clear change of theme – “we are moving onto the final part of the
exam”.
• It will introduce at least one additional theme.
• Seek clarification or extension of observations made by the student in
relation to the additional theme.
• Open ended ideas that generate discussion.
• Establish connections and comparisons with your own cultural
experiences.
Consider….
• The oral assessment should last a minimum of 7 minutes and a
maximum of 10 minutes. Examiners will stop listening after 10
minutes.
• Under no circumstances should the recording be stopped or paused
at any point.
• The teacher is encouraged to interact/facilitate an authentic
discussion, but must not dominate the exchange.
Consider….
• Throughout the exam, you will have control over the dialogue and where
it is going.

• You will not only choose the themes, but also guide the conversation by
bringing up points that you are comfortable discussing further.

• You will have to establish comparisons between the cultural aspect


represented on the stimulus and your own culture/background, you are
the expert!

- Enables a wider conversation.
