Batch Processing

 Two Benefits
 Efficient allocation of resources:
 By grouping similar transaction and allocating processing resources saves our
cost and time.
 One can make an efficient allocation, cost effective and specialized
procedures to deal with these batches.
 Batches processing is an economical and high-volume transaction processing
method.
Batch Processing

 Better Control over the transaction process

 The accuracy of the process can be established by periodically reconciling the
batch against the control figure.
 For example, total value of a batch of sales orders is $150,000
 This number can be recorded when the batch is first assemble and then
recalculated at various points during its processing.
Real-time systems

 Real-time systems process transactions separately as they occur

 No grouping means “no time interval” between occurrence and recording.
 Improved productivity and enhanced customer satisfaction.
Difference between Batch processing
and Real Time Processing System
Difference between Batch processing
and Real Time Processing System
 Batch Processing :
Batch Processing system is an efficient way of processing large volumes of
data. where a group of transactions is collected over a period of time. Data is
collected, entered, processed and then the batch results are produced. The
main function of a batch processing system is to automatically keep executing
the jobs in a batch. This is the important task of a batch processing system
i.e. performed by the ‘Batch Monitor’ resided in the low end of main memory.
Difference between Batch processing
and Real Time Processing System
 Real Time Processing :
Real Time Processing systems are very fast and quick respondent systems.
These systems are used in an environment where a large number of events
(generally external) must be accepted and processed in a short time. Real
time processing requires quick transaction and characterized by supplying
immediate response. For example, defense application systems like as
RADAR, etc.
Advantages of Batch Processing

 Ideal for processing large volumes of data/transaction.

 Can do processing independently even during less-busy times or at a desired
designated time.
 For the organization by carrying out the process, it also offers cost efficiency.
Disadvantages of Batch Processing

 Time delay between the collection of data and getting the result after the
batch process.
 In the batch processing master file is not always kept up to date.
 One-time process can be very slow.
Advantages of Real-Time Processing

 No significant delay in response.

 Information is always up to date. Hence, it makes the organization able to
take immediate action. Also, when responding to an event, issue or scenario
in the shortest possible span of time.
 It also makes the organization able to gain insights from the updated data.
Even helps to detect patterns of possible identification of either opportunities
or threats.
Disadvantages of Real-Time Processing

 Very complex as well as expensive processing.

 Also turns out to be very difficult for auditing.
 Real-Time processing is a bit tedious processing
