Let’s Start!
The desktop environment was designed to be user-
friendly which means it is easy to use because
each image has a function you need in working with
the desktop. Hold your mouse and start to check
them.
THE DESKTOP
It is the main screen area that you will see after
logging in to windows. It is like a desk where you work.
THE DESKTOP
INTERFACE
The desktop contains the following:

The Taskbar
The long bar at the bottom of the desktop shows
you which apps are running and allow you to switch
between them
The Taskbar contains:
1. Start button-This button shows the Start menu, which you can
use to open programs and settings.
2. Search Box-This helps you find apps, files, and settings by
typing in their keyword.
3. Task View- This displays all open windows and will allow users to
switch between them or switch between multiple workspaces.
4. File Explorer-Display where the files, folders, and subfolders
are stored.
5. Notification Area- This is also known as the system tray. It is
located on the right side of the taskbar. It displays the app icons
to show status and notification such as:

a. Current date and time c. Sound and battery Status


b. Network Connectivity d. Action Center
The Icons
These are small pictures that represent and are linked to files,
folders, apps, and other items. The usual icons you will find in the
desktop are:

1. This PC – This shows the contents of the hard drives and other
storage devices connected to the computer.
2. Network – This access the computers and devices that are on
your network.
3. Recycle Bin – This keeps the deleted files. You can get these
files back if you have not emptied the Recycle Bin.
The Themes
These include a desktop background, a window color, sounds, and
a screensaver on your computer.
To change the Lock and Desktop background:

1. Click on the Start button.


2. Click on the Setting option.
3. Click on the Personalization option, then click
on Background.
4. Select by clicking a picture, solid color, or
create a slideshow of pictures.
To change the Desktop Theme:

1. Click on the Start button.


2. Click on the Setting option.
3. Click on the Personalization option,
4. Click on the Themes option.
5. On the Theme Settings option, click on
the theme you want.
