ORIENTATION FOR 2ND YEAR STUDENTS
INTRODUCTION O The curriculum for Mechanical Systems and Vehicle Engineering Program of ASTU was designed to be implemented starting from 2014/15 entry students. O It deals with application of mechanical, physical and electronic principles to solve the real-life problems based on the issues in design, construction, operation and maintenance related to mechanical systems and vehicle engineering. O This program is the composition of: O Automotive Engineering, O Farm Machinery Engineering and O Mechanical Systems Engineering What do Automotive Engineers Work? O Automotive engineers are involved in the O designing and producing visual interpretations of automobiles and their components using computer- aided design packages O deciding on the most appropriate materials for component production; O applying mechanical, thermodynamic, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical principles to resolve engineering problems and find appropriate solutions; O supervising and inspecting the installation, modification and commissioning of mechanical systems in industrial facilities or plants; What for Farm Machinery Engineers? O Farm Machinery Engineers develop methods and design equipment for land preparation, planting and harvesting. O Work with Sensors which are combined with microcomputers, controllers, artificial intelligence and other software, to optimize efficiency, sustainability, and the reliability of our food, feed, fiber and fuel economy. O Monitor Precision agriculture utilizing GPS, yields monitors, remote sensing and variable-rate technology O Conduct sales, service, training, management, planning, market and product research related to implementing and applying technologies. Thinking of Mechanical Systems Engineering?
O Students who have undertaken the Mechanical Systems
major will be able to rigorously integrate fundamental science in mechanics with engineering principles to solve practical problems involving mechanical systems. O Core skills and knowledge that will be developed include: O fundamental scientific comprehension that will lead to accurate mathematical modeling of mechanical systems, …mechanical systems
O analytical and abstract thinking, problem-solving
and design skills, and the ability to carry out laboratory experiments to confirm possible solutions to complex problems. O In all levels of this major, we will ensure the development of excellent communication skills that will enable our graduates to deliver complex scientific information in a clear and concise fashion. …mechanical systems O Conduct research that tests or analyzes the feasibility, design, operation, or performance of equipment, components, or systems. O Develop or test models of alternate designs or processing methods to assess feasibility, sustainability, operating condition effects, potential new applications, or necessity of modification. O Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design, performance specifications, or environmental regulations Thank you!!
