07 - Architectural Drawing Systems - Multiview and Isonometric Drawings

This document provides an overview of basic dimensioning and projection systems used in technical drawings. It discusses numbering dimensions, dimension lines, and extension lines used for dimensioning. It also explains different projection systems including orthographic, oblique, and perspective projections. Orthographic projection uses parallel projectors perpendicular to the picture plane, while perspective projection uses radiating projectors from a single viewpoint. The document outlines multiview drawings using plans, sections and elevations, as well as paraline drawings including isometrics, dimetrics and trimetrics. It describes 1, 2 and 3 point perspective drawings. Finally, it discusses projection theory regarding the relationship between the line of sight and plane of projection in technical drawings.

Orthographic Projection

• Projectors are parallel to each

other and perpendicular to the
picture plane

• Axonometric projection is a of Sight

Projection Systems
Oblique Projection

• Projectors are parallel to each

other and oblique to the picture
plane
Projection Systems
Perspective Projection

• Projectors or sightlines radiate

from a central point that
represents a single eye of the
observer
Pictorial Systems
MULTIVIEW DRAWINGS

• Consist of plans, section, and elevation

• The Principal face in each view

Pictorial Systems
Paraline Drawings

• Isometrics - the three major axes make equal

angles with the picture plane

• Dimetrics - Two of the three major access

make equal angles with the picture plane

• Trimetrics - All three major access make

equal angles with the picture plane
Pictorial Systems
Paraline Drawings

• Elevation Obliques - a principal

vertical face is oriented parallel to the
picture plane

• Plan Obliques - a principal horizontal

face is oriented parallel to the picture
plane
Pictorial Systems
Perspective Drawings • 1-point Perspectives - one horizontal axis is
perpendicular to the picture plane while the
other horizontal axis and the vertical axis
are parallel with the picture plane

• 2-point Perspectives - both horizontal axes

are oblique to the picture plane and the
vertical axis remains parallel with the
picture plane

• 3-point Perspectives - both horizontal axes

as well as the vertical axis are oblique to
the picture plane
Projection Theory
• Used to graphically represent 3D objects on
2D media (paper, computer screen)

• Based on 2 variables: line of sight and Plane

of Projection (image or picture plane.
Projection Theory
LINE OF SIGHT - an imaginary ray of PLANE OF PROJECTION - an
light between the eye of an observe and an imaginary flat plane which the image
object. (TYPES: parallel and is created.
Converge/perspective projection)
The image is produced by connecting
the points where the LOS pierce the
projection plane
Pictorial Systems
Paraline Drawings

• 3D presentation used to illustrate the Oblique drawing is a type of paraline

relationships of planes and volumes. In drawing where projection lines have an
this type of drawing, edges and oblique angle to the picture plane. With a
surfaces that are parallel in the physical plane oblique, the plan retains its size and
model are also parallel in the drawings shape. With an elevation oblique, the
elevation retains its size and shape.

• This technique can produce either

1. Multiview drawing - each view show an object in 2 dimensions

2. Axonometric drawing - show all three dimensions of an object in one view
