COMPUTER-:
Computer is an electronic machine.
The word Computer has been taken from “compute” which
means “calculate”.
Full Form-:
C- Common
O- Oriented
M- Machine
P- Particularly
U- Used for
T- Trade
E- Education
R- Research
ADVANTAGES-:
Speed-:
Computer has high speed. Its speed is measured in nanoseconds.
Accuracy-:
Computer gives 100% accurate result.
Reliability-:
Computer is a reliable machine. It means it never gets tired or bored even if
we give it same work to do.
Capacity Storage-:
Computer can store large amount of data. We can store documents,
graphics, sounds etc in computer.
Versatility -:
Versatility means computer can perform various tasks at same time.
Source Of Entertainment-:
We can use computer for entertainment purpose like we can play games ,
Listen Songs , Watch Movies etc.
COMPUTER MEMORY
Computer Memory is measured in Bit and
Bytes .
1 kilobyte = 1024 Bytes
1 Byte = 1 Character
1 kilobyte = 1 Page
1 Megabyte= 1 Book
1 Gigabyte = Few Books
1 Terabyte = Many Books
RAM
Primary Memory
RAM
RAM - : RAM stands for Random Access
Memory.
It is read and write memory
All display devices are just visible just because
of RAM .
RAM is a Volatile Memory .
It is a Temporary Memory.
Data and instructions remains in it as long as
we are working on it and it power goes off it can
be lost .
TYPES OF RAM - :
DRAM – Dynamic Random Access Memory
It stores data temporarily as the data is lost when the power supply gone .
It consumes less power and it is cheaper than SRAM .
SRAM – Static Random Access Memory .
The word static means that it does not need to frequent refresh as DRAM.
Data can be lost when the power goes Off.
It consumes more power.
It is expensive than DRAM.
It holds less data as compared to DRAM.
SDRAM – Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory
It is an improvement to DRAM because it retrieves data alternatively between two sets of memory.
It uses a synchronous interface to transmit large amount of Data
SDRAM has very high speed .
DDR – Double Data Rate Memory
It is an advanced version of SDRAM
It is sometimes known as SDRAM II
It has doubled speed as compare to SDRAM
It is mostly used in notebook computer .
It uses less power.
TYPES OF ROM
PROM - : Programmable Read Only Memory.
It is also a Read Only Memory like ROM .
EPROM - : EPROM Stands for Erasable Programmable Read
Only Memory .
It is a Flexible memory.
It means we can change the instructions acc. to our
requirements.
We can also erase the instructions by using
UV ( Ultra Violet ) Rays.
EEPROM - : Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only
Memory.
It is also flexible memory .
