Statistical Analysis System

SAS offers flexible programming and strong data analysis abilities. It is used by over 80,000 organizations worldwide for applications like multivariate analysis, business intelligence, predictive analytics, and clinical research. While costly, SAS provides benefits like easy use, large database handling, strong data security, and job prospects. However, its interfaces can be difficult for text mining and it lacks some graphic abilities compared to open source options like R.

CEO & Co-Founder

James Goodnight cofounded the analytics software firm SAS in

1976 with John Sall.

Goodnight has been at the helm since the company's inception,

when it developed software to analyze agricultural data.

SAS products are used by more than 80,800 organizations around

the world; 2021 revenues were $3.2 billion.

Goodnight and Sall, who is also a billionaire, founded private

school Cary Academy together and co-own a country club and a
hotel.

According to International data corporation, SAS is the largest
market-share holder in "advanced analytics" with 28.6%
percent of the market as of 2021. SAS institute was the market
leader with a 10.8% market share while Salesforce was #2
followed by SAP, Microsoft and Oracle.

It is the largest independent vendor in the world.

SAS JOBS BY INDUSTRY
Netflix is successful thanks to big data and analytics.

151 million subscribers that have made them successful.

What is the secret to their success? Big data and
analytics. So, how does Netflix use data analytics? By
collecting data from their 151 million subscribers, and
implementing data analytics models to discover customer
behaviour and buying patterns.

it might look like Netflix is throwing their cash at

whatever they can get, but in reality, they greenlight
original content based on several touch points derived
from their user base using Analytical Tools Like SAS.

If you watched lots of TV shows centred on women,

you get a trailer focused on the female characters.
Standard Chartered Bank uses SAS Analytics to meet
stress-testing requirements and assess the effect of
crisis scenarios on its future P&L and balance sheet

Standard Chartered partnered with SAS to create a

scenario-based analytics platform (SBAP).

Balance your revenue with the risk profile within the

organisation.

Standard Chartered earned industry recognition for

its achievements, winning the 2021 Smartest Bank in
Asia award for its SBAP at the IDC Financial Insights
Innovation Awards 2021.
Each week, more than 240 million customers shop at
Walmart (online and at its banner stores), making it the
world’s largest retailer.

In addition, more than 100 million keywords are

constantly analysed to know what people near each
store are saying on social media.

Data cleansing “When you have as much customer

data as we do, it is absolutely imperative to cleanse it.”

With assistance of BI An in-store mobile navigation

system was developed so that customers can search for
items and see exactly where they are located in the
store.
INTRESTING REVIEW FROM ‘SCOTT MONGEAU’- PRINCIPAL DATA SCIENTIST – GOOGLE

“ Apparently, there Was a case where a guy came in and within 30 minutes had assimilated the data,
resolved the variables, deployed 15 different machine learning models (including ensemble
techniques), and ran comprehensive diagnostics to select the best model.

He submitted his results and walked away with the best model whereas most of the others were still
working on getting their data situated in R or Python.

Even if you have an expendable army of eager techs that will put in 70+ hours a week chasing the
Pied Piper dream of start-up riches, there are natural inefficiencies in mucking about with code and
scripting when you need to blast through common tasks, configure and deploy hundreds of models,
and perform comprehensive like-to-like diagnostics.

Give some thought to ROI: instead of hiring five recent graduates to stumble about in the dark with R
for 6 months, hire a single SAS expert, or even bring in a consultant and train a student to maintain
the resulting models.”
