Computing the Electrical Loads
Lighting Outlet
a. Determine no. of LO’s
NEC “100 watts shall be the maximum load for each
household lighting outlet.”
b. Determine total current load
c. Determine size of conductor wire (see Table 2-5 or 4-2)
d. Determine size of conduit pipe (see Table 2-9)
e. Determine size or rating of fuse/breaker (see Table 4-1)
Apply 80%
Computing the Electrical Loads
Lighting Outlet
For example in CIRCUIT No. 1
a. Determine no. of LO’s
14 LO’s
b. Determine total current load
14 x 100 = 1,400 watts
1,400W / 220V = 6.36amps
c. Determine size of conductor
wire (see Table 2-5 or 4-2)
No. 14 or 2.0mm2
d. Determine size of conduit pipe
(see Table 2-9)
13mm ø pipe
e. Determine size or rating of
fuse/breaker (see Table 4-1)
Apply 80%
15 amps
Computing the Electrical Loads
Convenience Outlet
For example in CIRCUIT No. 1
a. Determine no. of CO’s
12 CO’s
b. Determine total current load
12 x 180 = 2,160 watts
2,160W / 220V = 9.82amps
c. Determine size of conductor
wire (see Table 2-5 or 4-2)
No. 14 or 2.0mm2
d. Determine size of conduit pipe
(see Table 2-9)
13mm ø pipe
e. Determine size or rating of
fuse/breaker (see Table 4-1)
Apply 80%
15 amps
Computing the Electrical Loads
Size of Service Entrance
a. Determine total load of circuits
b. Apply 80% demand factor (NEC)
c. Determine size of wire (see Table 2-5)
d. Determine size of conduit pipe (see Table 2-9)
Computing the Electrical Loads
Size of Service Entrance
a. Determine total load of circuits
(1,400+2,160+3,600) / 220V = 32.54amps
b. Apply 80% demand factor (NEC)
32.54 x 0.80 = 26.032amps
c. Determine size of wire (see Table 2-5)
No. 10 or 5.5mm2
d. Determine size of conduit pipe (see Table 2-9)
20mm ø pipe
