ACHIEVEMENT OF
GRADE 12 SENIOR HIGH
SCHOOL STUDENTS IN
RESEARCH
CHANGE TITLE
INTRODUCTION
In today’s modern era, research has grown largely and has become one
of the most important tools to find solutions to every problem of
human kind and society’s needs or in the way of life as a whole.
(Proponents)They added that research becomes more comprehensive
with the emergence of new technologies opening many frontiers to
various fields such as education, business, medicine, engineering,
economics and science(Bernal, Oguan & Pinca, 2014).
Papanastasiou as mentioned in the study of Bernal et. al. (2014)
indicates college students on the tertiary level are required to have
a research paper which is a requirement for them to receive a
baccalaureate degree which focuses in issue, topics and problems
related to their field of interest. However, according to him also
that tied with the research study is the anxiety of every student
during research classes or in the process of making it and they tend
to see research negatively.
Ain, Ameen, Fatima, Khan, Nawaz & Shibli (2010) stated that
many studies conducted by the researchers found evident
relationship between the context of anxiety and academic
achievements of a students. In reference to this, one researcher
studied found out the anxiety can be considered a major predictor
to the success of students in terms of their academic performance.
Statement of the Problem
The researcher will use a survey research. The participants for this study
are the Grade 12 Senior High School Students. The conduct of this study
will be within the School year 2017-1028.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
1. Anxiety 2. Grades
ACADEMIC ANXIETY
Anxiety is complicated psychological situations which have an effect on cognitive, behavioral and psychological
states (Putman, 2010). Anxiety disorders are common mental health conditions among all children in almost every
field of their life especially in academic field. Anxiety can be classified into three sections in which academic
anxiety is situation specific form of anxiety related to academic circumstances (Tohill, & Holyoak, 2000).
Academic Anxiety
Academic anxiety has become an important topic in the educational context. Many psychologist in the field of
educational psychology have carried out researchers on academic anxiety and negative outcomes for different
It has been recognized that anxiety plays a significant role in student’s learning and academic performance
(Tobias, 1979). Reilly and Lewis (1991) articulate that anxiety is hampering for young people’s academic
achievement.
Academic Anxiety
According to Chand & Lu (2007). Academic anxiety in academic institutions can have negative result on the
students if not well managed. Lee & Larson (2000) Indicates that academic anxiety is conceptualized as a state of
distress induced by a student’s appraisal of excessive academic demands. It was also suggested by Brenda and
Tillson (2010) the anxiety is said to be the primary function of academic anxiety represented by the cognitive
avoidance of threat.
Academic Anxiety
Academic anxiety can have a negative effect on student’s academic performance and achievements. (leta,
2011). Most of the studies were carried out in Western population. However, there are limited researchers on anxiety
among students in Saudi population. This research was able to have a greater concern to identify the locus of the
impact of anxiety on academic performance among the young students of Saudi Arabia.
Academic Anxiety
According to Zelazo & lyons (2012), teaching self-regulation in early childhood is important to reduce the
development of school related anxiety at an early age. Anxiety may have its negative effect on the information
processing system. Some students could hardly improve their academic performance when suffering from a
level of anxiety. It was also stated by Nelson and Hardwood (2011) that people with anxiety have difficulty in
METHODOLOGY
RESEACRH DESIGN
This study will take place within the school of Maryknoll School
of Sto.Tomas, Davao Del Norte, specifically at the senior high
school building. The survey will be managed in classrooms
throughout the school days.
SAMPLING TECHNIQUES
According to Dudovaskly (2012), convenience sampling or also known as availability sampling refers to a specific type of
non-probability sampling method that depends on data collection from population members who are conveniently
available to participate in a study. The respondents are limited for those students who experienced making research paper
and who are willing to be involved in this study. Researchers focused only the grade 12 students from different strands
which are the STEM, GAS, ABM, and TVL students. In addition, there are 233 respondents that were given with the
In the conduct of this study, all the respondents of the study were given consent forms so the researchers would know if
they agree to be part of the study and that the researchers would have the authority to make use of their grades in research.
The data were collected through the use of survey questionnaire. The researchers visited in each classroom during their
recess time or lunch break. During the visiting time, the researchers introduced the research topic and gave the students
The researchers used the following statistical tools that analyzed the data that were gathered.
Weighted Mean. This was used to determine the anxiety level in research subject.
Mean. This was used in determining the academic achievement in research subject.
Person r. This was used to determine the significant relationship of anxiety and academic achievement of the students in
The data were analyzed through testing the significance of relationship between the mean of the research grades of students
and their anxiety level. The result were showed in tabular method and were analyzed through the SPSS. The researchers
analyzed it through Pearson r analysis. According to University of West England (2017), Pearson r is used to the test the
relationship between two quantitative, continuous variables. It is also stated that the Pearson’s correlation coefficient or R-
