Device Background
In the growth of telecom services , traditional
telephone services and data services are integrated in
to a uniform network, which is called the Next
Generation Network(NGN).
As an integrated Network the NGN has an open
network architecture that can provide voice, data and
multimedia services.
In NGN the access equipment is called Media Access
Gateway (AG).
ZXMSG 5200 Multiplex Service Gateway is one of
the major Next Generation Network (NGN) oriented
products recently developed by ZTE.
NGN combines the public switched telephone
network (PSTN) and Integrated Services Digital
Network (ISDN), creating a single multi-service
network.
ZXMSG 5200 is a type of integrated media access
gateway but also provides narrowband and broadband
services. It adds a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
module to the previous generation systems.

Technologies
ZXMSG 5200 uses various technologies as listed
below:
Ethernet
Asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL)
ADSL2+
Very high speed digital subscribers line (VDSL)
Single pair high digital subscriber line (SHDSL)
Multicast
Ethernet passive optical networks (EPON)
ISDN
PSTN
ZXMSG 5200 system is divided in to a main control
shelf and a subscriber shelf.
The main control shelf consists of Giga Ethernet
Integrated Control and Switching card, CNIC subcard
, Packet Processing resource card type
B(MPRB),Power board (POWER H), subscriber line
card(SLC) and test subscriber line card(TSLC). The
line cards can be plugged in the ten line card slots of
the main control shelf in random manner.
The subscriber shelf has two less MPRB slots and two
more line cards than the main control shelf. The other
configurations are the same.
Structure layout Diagram
The figure shows the structure arrangement of
ZXMSG 5200 in the maximum configuration, where
there are five shelves including one main control shelf
and four subscriber shelves.
ZXMSG 5200 card types are:- Control and switching
card, packet processing and resource card, uplink sub
cards ,uplink cards, analog line cards, DSL cards, test
cards and power cards.
Board Overview
Giga Ethernet Integrated Control and Switching card
(GIS)
- Performs management functions and circuit status
scanning of downlink subscriber line cards.
-Manages telephone call and voice connections,
System control and H.248 call process.
- Performs TDM switching, Ethernet switching and
network functions.
- Expands broadband and narrowband subscriber
shelves.
- GIS card supports active/standby working modes,
GIS card supports two central processing units
(CPUs)
- Provides connections for narrowband switching
networks.
- Processes access network and V5 protocol/H.248
protocol functions.
- Collects and switches broadband Ethernet buses.
- Handles layer 2 protocol functions of Ethernet.
- Supports 2 FE and 2 GE interfaces.
CNIC sub card
CNIC is an interface sub card between ZXMSG
5200 system and IP network. It is plugged in the
control card, GIS to perform Network Address
Translation (NAT)
The main functions of CNIC sub card
Distributes received RTP packet to MPRB cards
according to their RTP number.
Changes the RTP packet destination address in to a
uniform external IP address of ZXMSG 5200
system.
Separates the internal network from external IP
networks. It provides system and network traffic
filter measures.
Implements firewall functions through NAT
enhancing system security.
Provides a port on the IP network side
CNIC Sub card
VoIP Processing Card
Packet Processing and Resource card Type
B(MPRB)
- MPRB card supports load sharing mode and is
plugged in slot 11 or 12. MPRB has a built-in DSP
resource processing chip that provides resources such as
voice, DTMF detection/occurrence, tone and voice
occurrence, CID receiving/transmitting, and conference
call.
-Implements VoIP and fax forwarding function.
- Provides 240 channels for VoIP processing resources.
- Converts voice over IP packets.
- VOP1 and VOP2 are sub-cards for MPRB card
Main functions of VOP1 and VOP2 cards are
- VOP1 and VOP2 cards Transmit 240 channels of
VoIP and facsimiles.
Maximum limit of VOP1 or VOP2 cards on MPRB
card is 1.
VOP1 and VOP2 cards implement Voice over IP
function: Voice code and voice decode (G.711, G.723,
G.729, T.38, etc).
VOP1 and VOP2 cards implement RTP/IP pack and
unpack
