Effect of Textual Aids

Textual aids such as graphs, charts, diagrams and images can improve understanding of written text. They include linear aids that must be read sequentially as well as non-linear aids that can be explored visually without a fixed order. Common non-linear aids are pie charts, bar graphs, line graphs, concept maps and story maps. Using textual aids helps students learn by providing visual frameworks to organize information and relationships between concepts.
