    ABOUT SHYAMA

    • There are basically three main characters in this dance drama and they are namely Shyama, Bojrosen and Uttiyo.

    • • Shyama is basically a dance drama which was written by Rabindranath Tagore.


    • • It was written in the year of 1343 according to the Bengali calendar.
    • • Shyama is based on a poetry by Rabindranath Tagore which is namely Parishod.
    • • This dance drama is a perfect balanced combination of love and sacrifice.
    • • This dance drama was first stage in 1936 at the Ashutosh College Kolkata where it was proved as an instant hit dance drama.
    • • The word Shyama basically refers to a dark compexiouned lady which is even shown in this dance drama.
    • • There are almost 48 songs which are presented in this dance drama.
    • • The songs sung in this dance drama are basically like conversation between the characters and the script of the scenes.

    STORY OF SHYAMA DANCE DRAMA

    • The dance drama Shyama begins with one of the thousands of journey of a merchant whose name is Bajrosen. He finds a very precious necklace
    which he does not wants to sell. When his friend comes to him and ask him about the necklace he says that rather than selling this necklace I
    would like to give this to my dream girl whom I don’t even know.
    • When the queen comes to know about this her greed takes her to the king and makes her to say says a lie that a very precious jewellery is missing
    from her collection and that jewellery is with Bajrosen. As soon as the kings about this he ask his cops to catch the thief.
    • The cops started searching Bajrosen and as soon as they found him, they started running behind him. Bajrosen understood the matter and also
    started running to save himself from being false ceiling caught. After running for miles, Bajrosen was finally caught and
    • handcuffed.
    • This was the first time when Shyama saw the Merchant and fell in love with him. She got very curios to know what was happening.
    • Shyama was the court dancer in the King’s Kingdom. When she saw the merchant being present she went to the guard and asked him about the
    happenings. The guardd replied that we were told to find the thief without knowing the identity and we caught him. Shyama realised that the
    merchant is falsely prisoned. She requested the guards to Iet him go but they refused.

    • BAJROSEN WAS SEEING ALL THIS AND BELIEVED THAT SHYAMA IS HIS DREAM GIRL FOR WHOM HE IS SEARCHING FOR.

    • ALL THIS WAS OBSERVED BY UTTIYO A MEMBER OF THE COURT WHO LOVED SHYAMA. HE SACRIFICED
    HIMSELF TO SEE SHYAMA HAPPY AND WENT TO HER BY SAYING THAT I WILL REPLACE THE MERCHANT FOR
    YOU.
    • AFTER LISTENING TO THIS SHYAMA WAS THANKFUL TO UTTIYO AND GIVE HER RING WHICH WAS GIVEN TO
    HER BY THE KING AS A PROOF OF THE THEFT. UTTIYO SURRENDERED HIMSELF TO THE KING.
    • SHYAMA RAND AWAY WITH BAJROSEN. AFTER KNOWING ABOUT THE ABSENCE OF SHYAMA AND BAJRSOEN
    FROM THE KINGDOM, THE KING AGAIN ORDERED THE COPS TO FIND BOTH OF THEM.
    • ON THE OTHER HAND THE MERCHANT WAS GETTING VERY CURIOS TO KNOW THAT HOW DID SHYAMA
    MANAGED ALL THIS. SHYAMA TOLD HIM THE TRUTH AND AFTER KNOWING EACH AND EVERYTHING,
    BAJROSEN GOT HURTED AND LEFT SHYAMA BY SAYING THAT SHE HAD DONE A VERY WRONG THING AND HE
    WILL NEVER FORGIVE HER FOR THIS.
