Tour Guiding as a Profession
 Must be a Filipino citizen
 At least 2nd year college
 Must pass the qualifying interview by
DOT
 Must undergo and pass DOT Sponsored
Seminars
 LGU – licensed
 DOT – Accredited

KINDS OF TOUR GUIDES
1.Free lance – not permanently connected
with any travel agency and have
been paid per trip
2.Staff Guides – permanently connected
with a travel agency and have
received monthly salary
TYPES OF TOUR GUIDES
1.Local Guide- a person competent enough to
guide in a certain locality or area
2.Escort – a person who accompany in the tour
during the trip of the tourist from the
port of origin to the destination
- usually handles gap (check in/out)
3.Specialist – a person who specialized in a
certain field such as botany,
architecture; e.g., from study of animal
w/ their scientific/generic/local names
4.Linguist – a person who can speak fluently in 2
or more languages

STEPS ON HOW TO MAKE A
COMMENTARY
1. Begin with a smile, greetings and
introduction.
2. Brief the guest about the travel. Mention the
activities of the day.
3. Review the main itinerary mention. Mention
the kind of transport, the food caterer and
accommodation.
4. Describe travelling destination --- how far,
how comfortable and the likes.
5. Set expectations.
STEPS ON HOW TO MAKE A
COMMENTARY
6. Give necessary precautions on health, culture,
beliefs, customs.

7. Don’t miss to explain important land markers


along the road. Ex. Old church, old building

8. Announce comfort steps.


Ex. “2 min from now, we will pass the old municipal bldg…”

9. Face the group, speak slowly but clearly.

10. Count before getting in and going out.
