Equality refers to providing equal opportunities to everyone and protecting people from being
discriminated.
Diversity refers to recognizing and respecting and valuing differences in people.
SOCIAL JUSTICE
Is the view that everyone deserves equal economic, political and social rights and opportunities.
Everyone’s human rights are respected and protected.
Social workers aim to open the doors of access and opportunity for everyone, particularly those in
greatest need.
4 TYPES OF DIVERSITY
1. Internal Diversity – characteristics are ones related to situations that a person is born into. They are
things that a person didn’t choose for themselves and are impossible for anyone to change.
2. External Diversity – is used to describe things that are related to a person but aren’t characteristics that a
person was born with.
3. Organizational Diversity – also called functional diversity, relates to the differences between people that
are assigned to them by an organization.
4. Worldview Diversity – is a diversity type that changes with time – we conceptualize the world differently
as we have new experiences and learn more about ourselves and each other.
