What is HVAC? 1 4
What is HVAC?
The full form of HVAC is – Heating, Ventilation and Air
Conditioning. HVAC is an electric device that works to
change the air condition of a particular place. HVAC can
heat the humidity of the air in a closed space. It can cool
hot air and it can heat cold air.

What is heating?
4 11
What is heating?
To heat the air of a closed room or a place, heat is introduced. The additional
heat given to increase the temperature of the building is called heating. Some
devices produce this heat.
In the case of HVAC, the heat is produced by the heater. The process of heating
is called central heating.

What is ventilation?
5 13
What is ventilation?
Usually, the air of a closed room gets separated from the outside environment
after some time. Therefore, the process of sending high-quality air inside the
room or any place is called ventilation.
In this ventilation process, along with the exchange of air, the temperature can
also be controlled—also supply of oxygen. Room smells, Virus, Bacteria and dust
fumes. The removal of other gases can also be accomplished by ventilation.
Thus, through the ventilation process, even a closed room becomes a ventilated
one.

What is air
conditioning? 6 15
What is air conditioning?
The primary function of air conditioning is to ventilate all the corners of the
closed room and control the humidity present.
Air conditioning lets the moisture out of the pipe through evaporation.

Types of HVAC
17
There are mainly two types of HVAC.

1 Ducted
2 Non-Ducted

Ducted System
1 19
Ducted System
A Duct system is a network of pipes. In which air flows. DUCT system is installed
in a building to circulate air through an HVAC system. The air reaches the room
through fans and blowers. The DUCT system completes the work of taking out
the contaminated air already there.
Chilled water is used to cool the air from the HVAC machine. Chilled water
completes the process of refrigeration.

Non-Ducted System 2 22
Non-Ducted System
Ductless Air Conditioning systems do not require ductwork to move air around
your house. Instead, ductless units blow cooled air directly into the living space.
Ductless air conditioning systems have two main components: an outdoor unit
and an indoor air-handling unit with an evaporator coil and fan.

Air Conditioner 1 26
Air Conditioner
Air conditioners work to reduce the heat by reducing the humidity present in
the air. It is to be understood that the air conditioner installed in HVAC alone
does not control the temperature. Instead, the air conditioner works in
conjunction with all other components.

Compressor 2 28
Compressor
The compressor plays an essential role in the cooling process. Compresses the
refrigerant to manage the temperature in the process of cooling. After
compression, the air is sent to the condenser. After that, the process of cooling
starts.

Condenser 3 30
Condenser
Condensers are heat exchangers, which work to remove heat from a building. If
a pump is connected with the condenser, heat can also be collected.

Thermal Expansion
Valve
32
Thermal Expansion Valve
Expansion Valve is part of a condenser. Expansion Valve does the work of
removing pressure from the liquid refrigerant made by the compressor.
Expansion turns the liquid into vapor. This valve is fitted with the air handler.

Air Handler 5 34
Air Handler
Air is circulated through the air handler system. Air handlers are attached to the
ductwork. The job of an air handler is to supply cold or hot air to the entire
building.
Air handlers are fitted with- blower. Heating and cooling elements and other
equipment are installed.

Chiller 6 36
Chiller
The job of a chiller is to remove heat from the liquid. There are two types of
chillers, one AIR-COOLED and the other WATER-COOLED.
Chiller units are found outside in air cooled, which cools the condenser coil with
the fan air.
Water-cooled systems are used in systems that require cooling for a more
extended period. Chilled water enters the cooling tower and cools the entire
system. Hot water keeps coming out continuously.

Duct System 7 38
Duct System
Duct systems are distributed throughout the building where the air has to be
delivered. However, these ducts do not remain attached to the main structure.
