The document discusses seasons and eclipses. It explains that seasons change because of the tilt and revolution of the Earth, causing the direct rays of the Sun to shift between hemispheres and creating uneven heating. It also defines solar and lunar eclipses, explaining that a solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and Sun, blocking the Sun's light, while a lunar eclipse happens when the Earth passes between the Moon and Sun, casting its shadow on the Moon. The document includes diagrams and quiz questions to reinforce these concepts.

Direct Rays Oblique Rays
The table below shows the height of the Sun at certain days on
different months.
Why do seasons change?
 The Axial inclination of Earth.
 Thedirect rays of the Sun shift from one
Hemisphere to the other as the Earth goes
around the Sun.
 Uneven heating due to the curvature of the
Earth.
 The Earth’s revolution around the Sun.
The Axial Inclination of the Sun
The direct rays shift from one Hemisphere to
the other.
 The warm season is brought on by the
direct rays of the Sun.
 Because of the tilt of the Earth, only
one Hemisphere receives direct rays at
any one time and that hemisphere will
experience summer at that time.
Uneven heating due to the curvature of the
Earth.
The Earth’s revolution around the Sun.
The position of the Sun
in the sky.
 During summer season
the days are longer
while the nights are
shorter.
 During Winter days are
shorter while nights are
longer.

celestial body by another.
 Thepassing into the shadow of a
celestial body.
Why do Eclipses occur?
 Aneclipse occurs because of the relative
positions of Earth, the Sun, and the Moon.
As Earth revolves around the Sun, the Moon
also revolves around Earth.
Two possible scenarios occur from the eclipse:
Umbra and Penumbra
