Systems of Linear Equations
Systems of Linear Equations
where any of the constants can be zero with the exception that each
equation must have at least one variable in it.
A consistent system of equations is a system of equations with at
least one solution.
An inconsistent system of equations is a system of equations with
no solution.
The equations of a system are dependent if ALL the solutions of one
equation are also solutions of the other equation. In other words,
they end up being the same line.
The equations of a system are independent if they do not share ALL
solutions. They can have one point in common, just not all of them.
To solve a system of two linear equations, we want to find the values
of the variables that are solutions to both equations. In other words, we
are looking for the ordered pairs that make both equations true. These
are called the solutions of a system of equations.
