Bode Plot of Basic Terms

The procedure for creating a Bode plot is: 1. Replace s with jω to obtain the transfer function in the frequency domain. 2. Calculate the magnitude in dB using 20log. 3. Calculate the phase angle. 4. Vary the frequency ω and plot magnitude and phase to show how they change with frequency.

Procedure for Bode plot

1. Replace s=jω to obtain transfer function in


frequency domain
2. Find the magnitude and convert it into decibels
(dB) using 20 log
3. Find the phase angle ϕ
4. Vary ω from minimum to maximum value and draw
the magnitude and phase plot

• For a simple zero at the origin draw a straight line with
a slope of +20 dB per decade and going through 0 dB
