COMSOL Software
• COMSOL Multiphysics is finite element analysis and
simulation software package for various physics and
engineering applications, especially coupled phenomena
or multiphysics.
• Multiphysics is the combination of several Physics
phenomena when describing a process.
• This software is also used for creating Physics based
apps.
Physics Builder in COMSOL Desktop
• The Physics Builder makes it possible
to create custom made physics
interfaces accessible from the
COMSOL Desktop with the same look
and feel as the built-in physics
interfaces.
• No programming is needed in Physics
Builder as it works in the COMSOL
Desktop from the Physics Builder
Tree.

Add-on Modules
The software has add-on modules that expand the capabilities in following
application areas:
• AC/DC Module
• Acoustics Module
• Chemical Engineering Module
• RF Module
• Heat transfer Module
• MEMS Module
• Structural Mechanics Module
Simulation Workflow
No matter what problem is being solved, the sequence of steps in simulation is
always the same. When creating a model from scratch, the workflow consists of
following steps:
• Set up model environment
• Create Geometric objects
• Specify material properties
• Define Physics boundary conditions
• Create the mesh
• Run simulation
• Postprocess Results
How it works
• As we implement the physical conditions of our model,
COMSOL mathematically formulates our multiphysics
couplings.
• We define the physics and then use the multiphysics
interface to direct which interface’s information is being
pulled from or passed into.
• In COMSOL Multiphysics, we can use a completely
arbitrary expression to plot and visualize any quantity we
want in our solution.
