Project Power Point

This document summarizes a study on extracting and characterizing cotton seed oil. The study aimed to extract oil from cotton seeds using different solvents (hexane, ethanol, and acetone) and identify the best solvent. Acetone yielded the highest amount of oil at 17.25%. The oils extracted with different solvents were then characterized based on physicochemical properties like free fatty acid, saponification value, iodine value, acid value, and pH. Ethanol extracted oil had the lowest acid value, making it the most suitable solvent for extraction. The concluded that cotton seed oil extraction could be used for domestic and industrial purposes.

CONCLUSION

 Low moisture content is advantageous

 The oil extracted can be used for both domestic and industrial purposes

 Ethanol can be selected as the most suitable solvent.

RECOMMENDATIONS

 Employ the use of other extraction methods such as supercritical fluid extraction, steam and high
pressure extraction.

 Use other solvents to know the most suitable for industrial use.

 Vary the moisture content to study the effect of moisture content on yield.
