CONCEPT:
 The healthcare industry is one of the major contributors in accelerating many
environmental problems due to the excessive use of hazardous products, toxic
chemicals and medical technologies which emit harmful radiations. Hospitals
face many challenges related to environmental sustainability such as – use of
renewable resources, reduction in carbon footprint, waste disposal, energy
and water efficiency and the use of chemical substances. The concept of
green healthcare is very important for the long term sustainability.
“A green hospital is one that aims to be environmental friendly, utilizes
renewable resources, reduces waste by implementing green practices and
enhances patient well-being.”
Advantages of establishing green hospitals-
•Improves quality of care
•Faster patient recovery time thereby reducing the length of the
stay in the hospital
•Employees are motivated and hence improve their quality of
work
•Reduction in operation cost by optimum consumption of power
and water
•Improvement in  the overall hospital performance
USE OF BIOPHILIC CONCEPT IN THE INTERIORS!
Healthcare spaces: post-operative rates of recovery reduced by 8.5%,
reduced pain medication by 22% by using biophilic effect

1. Good ventilation to reduce the spread of infectious disease; fresh air

passing over the skin also has stress reduction qualities.

2. Optimise lighting by using natural light to reduce patients length of stay,

stress, pain, depression and need for medication and reducing staff’s
exposure to high-intensity surgical lights which can cause retinal damage.

3. Provide views of nature to improve emotional well-being, reduce fear,

anxiety, pain, stress and even levels of medication.

4. Create hospital gardens to provide views of nature, reduce stress and

improve access to social support, satisfaction with quality of care and
sanctuary from clinical environment.

5. Use nature and natural materials in the interior design to make the
hospital environment more comfortable, aesthetically pleasing, informative,
relieve stress and increase satisfaction by renovating the layout, colour
scheme, furniture, floor covering, curtains and information displays and
materials. This will improve patient perception and satisfaction with
Design Evolution:
● Initially we experimented with more of angular forms for the sake of good view
of lake and eco-park ,which apparently didn’t work for us when it came to
interior spaces.

● Later, after experimenting with several forms we freezed to a form where we

divided the spaces to 3 different parts, the centre part is raising up to 7 floors and
the buildings at the side going up to 3 floors.
*Use of panels which have
nature related pictures.
Our major considerations:

1. Best efforts to make the hospital eco-friendly.

2. Healing with nature is our main motto, views of the nature outside helps heal
faster, hence rooms are located on higher floors to get better views.
3. Extensive use of courtyards to bring in natural light and ventilation and also to
cut down unnecessary use of electricity.
4. Use of STP systems and also rain water harvesting along with solar panels on
the roof, to make the building energy efficient.
5. Use of biophilic designing in the interiors

*Balconies at higher level for the view *Terrace gardens with plants, creepers ,pergolas
of lake and Eco park. and seating.

*Use of solar panels on cafe rooftop

*Shaded balconies, designed according to

climatic conditions.
