Statistics and Probability Q3M4

This document discusses the normal distribution, which is a probability distribution that shows graphical representations of continuous random variables obtained through measurements. It has a bell-shaped curve that is symmetric around the mean. The normal distribution is used to describe population characteristics and make statistical inferences. A standard normal distribution has a mean of 0 and standard deviation of 1. The empirical rule states that about 95% of values in a normal distribution fall within 1.96 standard deviations of the mean. Two examples are provided to illustrate finding percentages within certain ranges of a normal distribution.

STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY

Quarter 3-Module 4:
Normal Distribution
What is Normal
Probability
Distribution?
NORMAL
PROBABILITY
DISTRIBUTION
It is a probability distribution of a continuous
random variable which shows graphical
representations of random variables obtained
through measurements.

It is also used to describe the characteristics of

populations and making inferences. This graphical
representation is popularly known as normal curve.
PROPERTIES OF THE NORMAL
DISTRIBUTION (BELL CURVE)
• The normal curve is bell shaped.
• The peak of a normal curve is at the center
where the three measures of central tendency
such as mean, median, mode are equal to each
other.
• The curve is symmetric at the center.
• The tails are plotted on both directions of the
normal curve and are asymptotic with the
horizontal axis. Asymptote means a graph is
approaching to the specific line but without
touching it.
• The total area of the normal curve is 1.

What is a Standard
Normal Distribution?
STANDARD
NORMAL
DISTRIBUTION
It is used to desribe a normal probability
distribution whih has a ean of ero and a
standard deviation of 1.
HOW TO CONSTRUCT A
STANDARD NORMAL CURVE
• It should be bell-shaped and symmetric about
its center.
• Both sides of the tails of a normal curve
should not touch the horizontal axis.
• In the horizontal axis, use 0 at the center where
the mean is located and use 1, 2, and 3 to the
right and -1, -2 and -3 to the left, but not
limited to the -3 and 3, it is extended
indefinitely.
• The distance between the number in the
horizontal line or the xaxis should always be
proportion.
