OF PAINTS
WHAT ARE PAINTS?
Paint is defined as:
“A liquid solution of pigment (coloring material )
and solvent(paint thinner), which is applied on different surfaces
for decorative or protective reasons.”
Paint is essentially a coating or covering material applied on
metallic or non-metallic surfaces for decorative or protective
purposes.

Luminous paint used for this application are:
• Fluorescent Paint
• Phosphorescent Paint
• Radioactive ( Or Self-luminous Paint )
•Acrylic paint
•Poster paint

POSTER PAINTS
DECORATION
Paint can be used as a coating to decorate a surface or
substrate of all sorts of objects.
• Used for aesthetic purpose
• Makes objects attractive and valuable.
• Paints have a wide variety of colour, texture, finishes
and cost.
FABRIC PAINTS
FABRIC PAINT
Fabric paint is designed to bond to fabric without cracking or
fading.
ACRYLIC PAINT
Acrylic paint is an excellent alternate if fabric paint is unavailable.
PUFF PAINT
Puff paint stays puffy even after drying: hence the name.

MARINE COATING
• Marine coatings are designed for all kinds of vessels,
including commercial and cargo ships.
• Marine coating have anti-corrosive or anti-fouling properties
• Marine coating is of two type:
• In contact with water
• In contact with air
• Epoxy-polyamide is a type of underwater paint.
• Coal tar epoxy (CTE) paint and epoxy-hydrocarbon resin
(HR)flexibilizer (FL)-polyamide-polyamine gives corrosion
protection.
• Zinc dust is used in primer coatings for marine and industrial
applications to inhibit corrosion.
• Silicone paint is a special type of coating in which alkyd resins
are modified by adding silicone.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE COATINGS
• This Type of coatings are applied on:
• Steel structures
• Steel bridges
• Off-shore oil rigs and equipment
• Chemical and petroleum plants
• Piping heat-resistant coatings for pipes and flares
• Heavy-duty floor paint for factories
• Warehouses and airport hangars
• Plant and related equipment.
and other structures requiring protection against corrosion and/or
high resistance to wear and tear.
• These coatings generally require much thicker film.
• These coating includes polyurethane, polyester and epoxy.
CAN/PACKAGING COATING
• There are two types of coating:
• Inside of can
• Outside of can
• Inside coatings are applied on the inside of cans to ensure protection,
i.e., to prevent the metal from reacting with the contents of the can.
• Outside for decorative purposes.
• Epoxy resins provide an important coating for food and beverage
cans that helps to protect food and beverages from contamination with
dissolved metals and from spoilage due to bacterial contamination.
• Can coatings are essential to maintaining the quality and integrity of
canned food and beverages.
COIL COATING
•Coil coating is the continuous and highly automated industrial process for
efficiently coating coils of metal.
•Major industries using coil coating:
• Building panels
• Metal roofs wall panels
• Garage doors
• Office furniture
• Home appliances
• Air-conditioning outer panels and ductwork,
• Vending machines
• Foodservice equipment and cooking tins
• Beverage cans
• Automotive panels, etc.
•Available coatings include polyesters, plastisols, polyurethanes,
polyvinylidene fluorides (PVDF) and epoxies..

AUTOMOTIVE COATING
Water-based acrylic polyurethane enamel paint is currently
the most widely used paint for reasons including reducing
paint's environmental impact.
It protects the vehicle from corrosion, heat differences, bumps,
stone-chips, UV-light, etc.
AIRCRAFT COATING
Epoxy is used almost exclusively in aircraft components, are
more resistant to environmental degradation than resins such as
alkyds.
ANTI-CORROSIVE PAINT
• Anti-corrosive paint is a composition of corrosion resistant pigments
such as zinc chromate, lead chromate or red lead.
• It protects the metal components against degradation due to moisture,
salt spray, oxidation or exposure to a various environmental and
industrial chemical.
• This type of paint is mostly applied on iron or steel products.
FUNGICIDAL PAINT
• A paint which discourages growth of fungi on its dry applied film.

Following techniques are used for application
of paints:
• Brush
• Roller
• Paint Pad

• Electrostatic spray
• Dip coating

the paint.
• Prevents paint losses associated
with the spray application
method.
PAINT PAD
• Lies flat on the surface, allowing the user to avoid spattering.
• Most pads are made of foam and can apply either latex or oil-based
paints.
• A corner pad is a paint pad shaped in a 90 degree angle to allow for
easy painting of corners.

to the hazardous solvent vapors.
ELECTROSTATIC SPRAY
• Electrostatic spray application is based on the electrostatic
attraction of electrically charged atomized particles (either dry
powder or liquid paint droplets) to the grounded (having earth
potential) workpiece.
• Electrostatic spray is characterized by very low overspray.
• The method utilizes at least 95% of the paint.
DIP COATING
• Dip coating refers to the immersing of a substrate into a tank
containing coating material, removing the piece from the tank, and
allowing it to dry.
• Dip coating method is quick and efficient and works best with
thick paints with a strong adhesive quality.
Dip coating is used for:
• Medical Furniture
• Transmission and Gearbox components
• Domestic and commercial wirework
• Wheelchair partsLitter Bins
• Automotive accessories
