Smart Blind Eye - Glasses Using Arduino.

The document proposes a smart blind eye glasses system using an Arduino board to help visually impaired people navigate obstacles. It uses ultrasonic sensors to detect obstacles within a range of 5-6 meters in a 30 degree field of view. When an obstacle is detected, the system generates an automated sound from a buzzer or vibration from a motor to alert the user. The proposed system aims to be low cost, portable, user friendly and provide enhanced range detection compared to previous models. It is expected to allow visually impaired people to navigate independently and confidently.

Abstract

● Blind mobility is one of the major challenges encountered by visually impaired

persons in their daily lives.
● Their life and activities are greatly restricted by loss of eyesight.
● They normally travel using blind navigation system or by their accumulated memories
in their long term exploration.
● The third eye for Blind project is an innovation which helps the blind person to move
around and go from one place to another with speed and confidence by knowing the
nearby obstacles using the help of the wearable Eyeglasses which produces the
ultrasonic waves which notify them with buzz sound or vibration. It allows the user
those who are visually impaired to walk freely by detecting the obstacles.
Introduction
The main objective of the present work is to develop a low cost, reliable,
portable, user friendly, low power and robust solution for smooth
navigation. This Smart Blind Eye Glasses as meant are the glasses are for
visually impaired people. It has an in-built sensor in it which spreads
ultrasonic waves in the direction the person is going by scanning at most 5-6
meters of 30º range. As soon as the obstacle is detected, the sensor detects it
and sends it to the device which generates an automated sound using buzzer
and vibration .

1. Ultrasonic Smart Glass

R Agarwal , N Ladha , M Agarwal , K.K Majee , A Das.
● Using ultrasonic sensor to detect range.
● Used range of d>3m to buzz.
● Used 3 models using IC glass BGA package at 40um.
● The obstacle and output device is connected to the processing Unit. The power supply
is used to supply power to the CPU.
2.Third Eye For Blind People
K. Maheswari, Dr. D. Subitha

● Led will glow on detection of obstacle and audio sound will generate and can be heard
through a headphone.
● A stick is used to on which circuit is fabricated and a dazed person can also used it.
● Used 5 ultrasonic sensors for different body parts like as a hand band and knee pads.
● This gadget is light weight and convenient for use.
3.Obstacle for Blind People
M. Maragatharajan, G. Jegadeeshwaran, R. Aakash,
K. Anirutha, A. Sarath
● This system consists the equipment like Arduino UNO, ultrasonic sensor, buzzers,
Switches, Jumper wires.
● The objective is to cover a wide angle to detect the obstacles with the help of the
ultrasonic sensors to help the blind and make it easy for them to move around easily
without any problem.
● The Ultrasonic sensor here used as a transceiver. The ultrasonic waves are emitted by
the transmitter when the objects are detected.
4. Smart Glasses for Blind People
kita Bhuniya , Sumanta Laha , Deb Kumar Maity .

● Based on ultrasonic Range finder.

● After detection the circuit will generate an audio and can be listen by headset.
● The System works on priority to guide the blind man which can be changed as per
requirements.
● Blind person need to be walking at an suitable speed so as to allow the system to
process and guide them, it won’t be similar to a normal person who can see this.
Research Gap

● Earlier models used only limited range of 3meters.

● Cost was high approx 2200 INR.
● We proposed 2 sensors for both left and right direction.
● We used a motor for vibration for the people having hearing
disable.
● Cost was eco friendly as it whole ckt will cost approxx 900
INR and we the circuit is made in bulk it will be much
cheaper.

Arduino UNO/NANO
The Arduino Uno is an open-source micro-
controller board based on the Microchip
ATmega328P microcontroller and developed by
Arduino.cc. The board is equipped with sets of
digital and analog input/output (I/O) pins that
may be interfaced to various expansion boards
(shields) and other circuits.
UltraSonic Sensor (HC-
SR04)
The HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor uses SONAR to
determine the distance of an object just like the bats
do. It offers excellent non-contact range detection
with high accuracy and stable readings in an easy-to-
use package from 2 cm to 400 cm or 1” to 13 feet.
Buzzer
The buzzer is a sounding device that can convert
audio signals into sound signals.

Vibrating Motor
A vibration motor use the effect of mechanical
strain caused by high-frequency motion of the
equipment to detect acceleration and, hence
vibration.

Expected Outcomes
● A less complex portable, cost efficient, easy to manage an effective system with
50% cost reduction and 20% range enhancement.
● Physically impaired person will be able to walk confidently .
● It can detect the obstacles in every directions like left and right direction .
Without the help of others the blind person can move from one place to other and
lead their regular lives easily.
● We can customise this eyeglasses if blind person having hearing loss then it can
sense the alert using vibration motor.
