CLASS & SEC – VII C SARVA SHIKSHA ABHIYAN WHAT IS SARVA SHISHAK ANHIYAN • Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, or SSA, is an Indian Government programme aimed at the universalisation of Elementary education "in a time bound manner", the 86th Amendment to the Constitution of India making free and compulsory education to children between the ages of 6 to 14 a fundamental right. WHEN WAS IT INTRODUCED Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) is a comprehensive and integrated flagship programme of Government of India to attain Universal Elementary Education (UEE), covering the entire country in a mission mode. SSA has been launched in 2001-2002 in partnership with the State Governments and Local Self Governments.
The programme was pioneered by former Indian Prime Minister Atal
Bihari Vajpayee AIMS OF SARVA SHIKSHA ABHIYAN The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is to provide useful and relevant elementary education for all children in the 6 to 14 age group by 2000. There is also another goal to bridge social and gender gaps, with the active participation of the community in the management of schools. Useful and relevant education signifies a quest for an education system that is not alienating and that draws on community solidarity. Its aims is to allow children to learn about and master their natural environment in a manner that allows the fullest harnessing of their human potential both spiritually and materially. This quest must also be a process of value based learning that allows children an opportunity to work for each others’ well being rather than to per it mere selfish pursuits.
