Every computer has two basic parts: Hardware and Software.

 Hardware is a general term for the physical components
that make up a computer system, for example keyboard,
mouse, monitor, processor, circuit board and so on.

 Computer hardware is made up of the processor


(System Unit) and peripherals.

 Peripherals are computer hardware that are external to


the system unit but connect to it by cables or
wirelessly. Example keyboard, modem, printer, external
hard-drives, etc.
There are many hardware devices that can be put in five groups
Software
 Software is a general term for the programs
that control the computer system.

 Itis a set of instructions that is loaded onto


a computer which requires for user
interactions.

A program is a set of instructions that are


designed to perform a specific task
There are two main types of software:
 System software
 Application software

 System software – programs that allow the


hardware to run properly and allow the user to
communicate with the computer ,e.g. operating
systems, utilities, library programs, etc.

 Application software - programs that allow the user


to do specific tasks, e.g. spreadsheets, CAD
software, games, etc.
