Dengue Fever and Malaria
What is Dengue?
Dengue is a mosquito borne-viral
infection found in tropical and sub tropical
climates worldwide. The virus responsible for
causing dengue is called dengue virus (DENV)
there are four DENV serotypes, meaning that
is possible to infected four times.
Dengue is an infection caused by a
virus. You can get it if an infected mosquito
bites you. It is common in warm wet areas,
outbreak occur in the rainy season
A Yellow Fever Mosquito
is a mosquito that can spread
dengue fever. The mosquito
can be recognized by white
markings on it's legs and a
marking in the form of a lyre
on the upper surface of it's
thorax.
Dengue fever is
transmitted by the bite of an
Yellow Fever Mosquito Aedes mosquito, infected
with a dengue virus.

The common symptoms include:
*Sudden high fever
*Severe headaches
*Pain behind the eyes
*Severe joint and muscle pain
*Fatique
*Nausea
*Vomitting
*Skin rash, which appears two to five days after
the onset of fever.
*Mild bleedings (such a nose bleed, bleeding
gums or easy bruising.)
These symptoms may range from mild to severe.
In some cases dengue turns into severe. Severe
dengue can result internal bleeding and organ
damage, blood pressure can drop to dangerous
levels causing shock. In some cases, severe dengue
fever can lead to death.
Treatment: there is no specific treatment for
dengue fever. Fever reducers and pain killers can be
taken to control muscle aches and fever, drinking
lots of fluids and resting. Most people with dengue
recover within two weeks.
What is Malaria?
Malaria is one of the most common infectious
disease. Malaria is a serious and sometimes fatal
disease caused a parasite that commonly infects
a certain type of mosquito which feed on
humans. The parasite can be transmitted
through the bites of infected mosquitoes, this
parasite that causes malaria is a microscopic
single – celled organism called plasmodium.
The people who get malaria are typically very sick,
they got infected by Anopheles Mosquito, this disease is
life threatening.
Symptoms include fever and flu – like illness;
including shaking chills, headache, muscle aches and
tiredness. Nausea, vomiting and diarrehea may also occur
malaria may cause anemia and jaundice (yellow coloring
of the skin and eyes) because of the loss of red blood cells.
If not detected and treated promptly, malaria can be
fatal. However, with the right treatment, started early
enough, it can be cured.
How malaria different from dengue?
A key differentiation is that
malaria is an infectious disease
caused by a parasite, while
dengue is a viral infection.
Malaria is transmitted only
by a female Anopheles mosquito
because they depend on blood
meals for egg production.
