CAREGIVING

 Refers to the provision of assistance to


another person who is ill, disabled, or
needs help with daily activities.

  Often requires attention to the physical,


mental, social, and psychological needs,
and well-being.
  Caregiver is someone who
is responsible for the care of
someone who has poor
mental health, physically
disabled or whose health is
impaired by sickness or old
age.
According to Baroness Pitkeathley, you are
called a caregiver if you do the following:
1.  Take care of someone who has a chronic illness
or disease.

2. Manage medications or talk to doctors and nurses


on someone's behalf.

3. Help bathe or dress someone who is frail or


disabled.

4. Take care of household chores, meals, or bills for


someone who cannot do these things alone.

for Caregiver
 These are easy-to-use tools and
equipment that will support you in
organizing your caregiving activities.

  These tools and equipment for


caregiving are classified according to
use.
1. for taking vital sign
2. for meal preparation, and
3. for cleaning, washing, and ironing.
Tools, Equipment and Parephernalia
used in Meal Preparation:

1. AIRPOT -  It is a vessel usually rounded which is


used for holding liquid to maintain heat or coldness.

2. BLENDER – It is a kitchen and laboratory


appliance which is used to mix, puree, or emulsify
food and other substance.
3. COFFEE MAKER – It is an electric
countertop appliance that brews hot
coffee automatically.

4. CHOPPING BOARD – It is a flat,


wooden, or plastic board where meats
and vegetables can be cut.
5. ELECTRIC KNIFE – Kitchen device used
in slicing food. 

6. ELECTRIC CAN OPENER – It is used to


open canned goods with ease and accuracy.

7. FOOD PROCESSOR – It is a multi-


tasking tool used to slice, dice, whip food
ingredients.
8. FOOD TONGS – Instrument with two hinged or
sprung arms for grasping and holding.

9. LADLE – It is a long – handled spoon  with a


deep bowl at the end for serving food especially
broth or soup.
10. MICROWAVE OVEN – It is an oven
that uses microwave to cook or heat
food.

11. STOVE – It is an appliance which


electricity/gas is utilized to supply heat to
be used for cooking or reheating.
4. DISHWASHER – Mechanical device
for cleaning dishes, eating utensils and
pot.

5. DRYER – It is a machine or apparatus


that removes moisture through
ventilation or heat.

6. DUSTPAN – It is a handled pan or


scoop in which dust is swept.

Paraphernalia for Cleaning,
Washing and Ironing:

1. BOTTLE STERILIZER – It is an
apparatus which is used in destructing
microorganism in container like feeding
bottle through boiling.

2. BROOM – It is used to sweeping dirt. 

3. CLOTHES HANGER – It resembles the


shape of a person's shoulders and is used
to hang garments on.
7. DUSTER – It is a cloth or brush which is
used in removing dirt and dust.

8. FLAT IRON – It is used to iron or press


clothing or fabrics.

9. IRONING BOARD – It is a long, narrow


padded board, often with collapsible
supporting legs, use as a surface for ironing.
10. LAUNDRY / SORTING BASKET – It is an
amper for holding dirty clothes for washing or wet
clothes for drying.

11. VACUUM CLEANER – It is an electric


appliance which is used for cleaning floors, carpets
and furniture.

12. WASHING MACHINE – It is an electric


appliance which is used for washing clothes and
linens.

THERMOMETER
A. ORAL THERMOMETER – It
has an elongated bulb used in
taking body temperature from the
mouth or armpit.

B. RECTAL THERMOMETER – It
is the most accurate way to take a
temperature. 
OTHER MATERIALS
USED TO TREAT
PATIENTS:

1. ICE BAG – This bag is for holding ice


and applied to cool the head of the patient
with high fever.

2. HOT-WATER BAG – This is a rubber


bag and a hot water container.

3. GLASS AND STRAW – Use a straw


when giving bitter medicine.
