Math 10 Module15

This document contains information about arcs and angles from Mathematics modules 14, 15, and 16. It defines arcs, central angles, minor arcs, major arcs, and semicircles. It explains that the measure of a minor arc is equal to the measure of its central angle, while the measure of a major arc is 360 degrees minus the central angle. The measure of a semicircle is always 180 degrees. Examples are provided to demonstrate calculating arc measures using this information. Adjacent and congruent arcs are also defined.

ARCS AND
ANGLES
Lesson 1: Arcs and Angles
• In this lesson, you will recall basic
concepts regarding circles, and study
relationships among arcs, angles,
and other parts related to circles.

ARCS FORMED BY
CENTRAL ANGLES
ARCS FORMED BY CENTRAL ANGLES
A central angle is an angle
whose vertex is at the
center of the circle.
An arc is a part of a
circle that consists
of two points on the Minor Arc
circle (called the 3 Types
endpoints of the of ARC Major Arc
arc) and the
unbroken part of Semicircle
the circle.

ARCS MEASURES
ARCS MEASURES
The measure of an arc is related to the
measure of its corresponding central angle in
degree.
MINOR ARC = CENTRAL ANGLE
MAJOR ARC = 360° – CENTRAL ANGLE
SEMICIRCLE = 180°
The measure of a The measure of a
minor arc is always major arc is always
less than 180° greater than 180°

MINOR ARC: SM = 65°
MAJOR ARC: MRS = 360° - 65°

SEMICIRCLE: SRT = 180°
ARCS MEASURES
Arcs with equal degree measures are said to be
congruent.
Congruent arcs are arcs having the same
degree measure..

ARCS MEASURES
Two arcs that have common endpoint are called
adjacent arcs.
Adjacent arcs are two arcs on the same circle
that have exactly one common point.
