MOTIVATION
A 1990 study by a group of students in
the subject PERSONAL
MANAGEMENT in the U.P. College
of Bussiness Administration shows that
money motivates secondary school
educators in both Public and Private
Institutions.
A study on motivational strengths and work
satisfaction amon 176 department heads of 38
government corporation in the Philippines was
conducted in 1981-83 by Concepcion R. Martinez and
Elvira Zamora.

The works of F. Landa Jacano, Jaime
Bulatao, Mary Hollnsteiner and Lourdes
R. Quisumbing on FILIPINO VALUES
provide management some insights that
will help them understand why Filipino
Workers think, feel, act and perform in
certain ways.
Martires studied the need satisfaction
level of the work force in 57
multinational corporation in Metro
Manila in 1980-84. One Thousand
forty-one (1,041) in the work force
consisting of 206 middle managers
and 385 rank and file workers
participated by answering Porter’s
Need Satisfaction Questionaire.
In study conducted by De Jesus in
1985, analysis made with regard to
which factor (situational or worker
characteristic; ability or Motivation)
better explains job satisfaction and
performance.
1. A disagreement existed between the ratings of the supervisors
and workers regarding job performance and satisfaction.
2. Management-controlled factors were said to have “ managed”
levels of performance satisfaction.
3. “... The effects of ability and motivation were inconsistent to
support the interactive model, i.e., that performance= ability x
motivation.”
4. There is no substantial evidence that links socio-psychological
dimensions to work performance; factors such as organizational
and technical variable and culture be more relevant.
5. There are some factors beyond the control of workers which
perceived to affect their level productivity.
6. “ The motivational pattern outlined by factors analysis revealed
that the core concept pakikipagkapwa, etc., was his deep sense of
respect for pagkatao or personal dignity.
Marzan evaluated the needs and satisfaction of managers in
selected domestic private commercials banks located in
Makati in 1982.

personnel development were ranked first in order
of preference. Ranked last were human relations ,
independence, and area of assignment.
2. Sociological Factors affects some job factors.”
The Filipino values that tend to surface are those
that pertain to kinship and the desire to be
accepted.
Case studies on motivating
Filipino Workers were presented
by Toralba in 1975.
A study conducted in 1981 by Magno- Miguel on the
relationship between organizational climate, job
performance and job satisfaction of the Ministry of
Education, Culturee and Sports (MECS) revealed the ff.
1. There is a significant positive relationship between
organizational climate and job performance, and “more
highly so with Job Satisfaction.
2. Job performance is positively related with job
satisfaction.
3. Lower-order needs have lesser correlation to job
performance that higher order needs.
4. Job performance is signififantly influenced by
individual needs and organizational climate taken
together.
The Relationship between attitudes toward Job
Morale Factors and Job Performance in a
Government service institution was evaluated by
Setiawan in 1975
Arce sought some explanations or Job attitudes and behaviour in
Metro Manila factory in 1978

1. Intrinsic rewards were found to correlate significantly with


generalized measure of job satisfaction.
2. The worker’s concept of and attitudes toward their job were to
“functionally related” with their concept of company.
3. There is a significant correlation between the rating of Job
Performance and sickness/absences.
4. A negative correlation was seen to exist between job satisfaction
performance, and between job rating and frequency of absences.
5. Organizational variables, measures of dexterity, measure of
household structure and occupational or job mobility were found
to correlate significantly with job satisfaction.
Cabigao delved into the influence of
personal background, educational
background, work background and
social status on job satisfactionand
job performance of the nursing staff
of the Philippine Heart Center for
Asia in 1979-1980.
In 1991 research investigation of some
NON-GOVERNMENT
ORGANIZATIONS (NGO’S) in Metro
Manila, by Patricia Alano and Others. It
was revealed the most of the employee
surveyed worked
