WHY COMPUTERS ARE POWERFUL Classifying Computers 3

Computers are powerful due to their speed, reliability, consistency and accuracy in processing large amounts of data quickly and without errors. They can also connect people through communication. There are different classifications of computers including personal computers for single users, workstations that are more powerful, minicomputers for multiple users, mainframes for hundreds of users simultaneously, and supercomputers that can perform millions of instructions per second.

WHY COMPUTERS ARE

POWERFUL
 Speed:
computer operates on data and commands at incredibly fast speed.
 Reliability and Consistency:
high reliability of components enables the computer to produce
consistent results
 Accuracy:
computers process large amounts of data and generate error-free
results, provided the data is inputted correctly and the
instructions work properly.

 Communication:
people can connect with others by the use of computers.
CLASSIFYING COMPUTERS
The general classifications of computers are as follows:

o Personal Computer – small, single user

computer based on a microprocessor.
o Workstation - powerful, single-user computer;
it is like a computer, but has more powerful
microprocessor and a higher-quality monitor.
o Minicomputer - multi-user computer capable
of supporting from 10 to hundreds
of users simultaneously.
o Mainframe - powerful multi-user computer
capable of supporting hundreds or
thousands of users simultaneously.
o Supercomputer - extremely fast computer
that can perform millions of instructions per
second.
