THE DA VINCI CODE

The Da Vinci code is a thriller book

about a character named Robert
Langdon and Sophie Neveu. The book
is written by well known author Dan
Brown and it is the first book of a
series about Robert Langdon. It has
been made into a film and it’s an
international bestseller.
The Plot
The book starts off when Jacques Sauniere, the curator
of the Louvre museum, is shot in the stomach by a
monk named Silas and left to bleed slowly to death.
Silias is an extremist Christian and he is on a mission to
kill all of the members of an ancient brotherhood who
had links with the knights templar. Jacques Sauniere is
the final memeber to be killed, he is also the leader of
the group and the grandfather of Sophie Neveu one of
the protagonists in the book.

The time it takes Jacques to die is time enough for

him to set up the first of the puzzles to be solved. His
body is found naked with writings (written by Jacques
in his own blood) which are meant to be secret coded
messages to his granddaughter. Robert Langdon is
drawn into this murder as the Inspector on the case,
Bezu Faches, believes he is the killer. Sophie, knowing
Robert is innocent, helps him escape from the Musee
du Louvre, and the chase (and puzzle solving) begins.
The Plot cont.
Langdon and Sophie go to the house of Sir
Leigh Teabing, a historian, to ask for his
help opening the cryptex that they have
found by following Sauniere’s code.
Teabing tells them about legend of the
Holy Grail, starting with the historical
evidence that the Bible didn’t come
straight from God but was changed by
Emperor Constantine.
He also gives evidence that Jesus’ divinity was
decided by a vote at Nicaea, and that Jesus was
married to Mary Magdalene, who was of royal
blood, and had children by her. Teabing shows
them the hidden symbols in The Last Supper
and the painted representation of the
Magdalene. He tells them that the Holy Grail is
actually Mary Magdalene’s body and the
documents that prove Mary’s blood line is
related to Jesus.
The Ending
After escaping to England and following
more clues to find the password to opening
the cyptex Sophie and Langdon go to
Scotland, where Sophie finds her brother
and her grandmother. During the reunion,
she discovers that her family is the
bloodline of Jesus and Mary Magdalene.
Sophie and Langdon part, promising to
meet in Florence in a month.

Back in Paris, Langdon comprehends the poem

which they found in the cryptex which leads
him to the small pyramid built into the ground
in the Louvre, where he is sure the Grail must
be hidden.
What I Liked About The Book
I like the short chapters in the book. I think
they make it feel more fast-paced as the
chapters quickly jump to different areas of the
story. I also like the fact that the frequent
chapter breaks make it easy to find a stopping
point without having to quit in the middle of a
chapter.
The Plot was very clever and the
entertaining. It had me gripped
from the very first chapter. The
characters all had different
personalities but they all worked
well together, Sometimes having
different characters makes a book
feel quite random. I really enjoyed
the Da Vinci code and I strongly
recommend it to anyone who
hasn’t read it.
