An item class is a collection of items that share common attributes.

A

Item classes are created at the root item class or within a parent item
class and inherit values based on selections made when defining the i
tem class.

There's a more formal process of item creation called the New Item Request, or
NIR Process.
Workflow for NIR consist of the following steps:
1. Open
2. Definition
3. Approval
4. Scheduled
5. Completed

STEPS IN NEW ITEM REQUEST WORKFLOW
1. Open : Request for new item is created and opened.
2. Definition : We can configure the definition workflow at the item class level
3. Approval : Notifications are sent to approvers based on whether the assignment m
ethod is rules-based, or user defined.
4. Scheduled : The new item request is automatically promoted to the Scheduled stat
us after receiving approval.
5. Completed : A job is triggered and status is automatically changed to Completed.

 Item Statuses are used to define the state an item is in and based on the state, the default
values for item operational attributes.
 We can create, edit or delete item statuses on the Manage Item Statuses page. Following are
some item statuses:

2. Inactive

WHAT IS CATALOG?
 Catalogs is a group of categories were it will be created
under Functional area (Transaction or a Module).
 The top most level of a catalog is the catalog root. All
categories for the first level in the category hierarchy are
associated with the catalog root through the catalog
category association component.
