    Volkswagen used augmented reality and virtual reality technologies to design a new production line and clay prototypes for their Atlas Cross Sport model. The virtual engineering software allowed the factory team to plan equipment layout by viewing an augmented reality representation. It also built digital prototypes of the new models to make design changes easier. This reduced time and costs compared to traditional clay prototyping. Ford similarly used augmented reality with motion capture to evaluate ergonomics and identify compatibility issues between new vehicle designs and the assembly process in order to create a safer production environment and reduce injuries.
