A. Define cyber bullying.


B. To improve understanding of cyber bullying,
the harm of cyber bullying, and strategies for
responding to cyber bullying.
What is Cyberbullying?
Bullying is used to humiliate, threaten, oppress, torment, and
tyrannize someone. It can be defined as a continuous misuse of
power or authority against a person or a group of people that causes
physical, emotional, and social harm to that person or group. If this
kind of attitude and behavior happens online, it is called
cyberbullying.
What is Cyberbullying?
When the Internet, cell phones or other devices
are used to send or post text or images
intended to hurt or embarrass another person.

send or post text or images
intended to hurt,
embarrass, threaten,
torment, humiliate, or
intimidate their victim.

the victim.

Cyberbullying by Proxy…
 Someone else does the dirty work for
the main cyber bully.
 Bullies may hack into the victim’s
account or steal their password. They
may set up a new account pretending
to be the victim.
 Friends get angry with the victim.
 This form of cyber bullying is very
dangerous because many people are
involved, not just the bully and the
victim.
Forms of Cyber Bullying
 There are 6 forms of cyber
bullying:
1. Harassment
2. Denigration
3. Flaming
4. Impersonation
5. Outing and Trickery
6. Cyber Stalking
1. Harassment
What is it?
 When you repeatedly
send offensive, rude,
and insulting messages.
2. Denigration
What is it?
 When you distribute
information about another that
is derogatory and untrue
through posting it on a web
page, sending it to others
through email or posting
digitally altered photos of
someone.
3. Flaming
What is it?
 Online fighting
 When using electronic
messages with angry and
vulgar language.
 Use capital letters, images and
symbols to add emotion to
argument.
4. Impersonation
What is it?
 When you break into an
email or social network
account and using that
person’s online identity to
send embarrassing material
about others.
5. Outing and Trickery
What is it?
 When you share someone’s
secrets or embarrassing
information, or tricking
someone into revealing
secrets and forwarding it to
others.
6. Cyber Stalking
What is it?
 When you repeatedly send
messages that include threats
of harm or are highly
intimidating, or engaging in
other online activities that
make a person afraid for his
or her safety.
Who is the Cyberbully?
There are generally 5 types of
people who cyberbully:
 Power Hungry
 Retaliating Victim
 Mean Girl
 Vengeful Angel
 Inadvertent Cyberbully
1. Power Hungry
 Maintains control by
intimidating victim
2. Retaliating Victim
 Was cyberbullied or
bullied in the past.
 Seeks revenge on
bullies.
3. Mean Girl
 Bullies for
entertainment and to
alleviate boredom.
4. Vengeful Angel
 Seeksrevenge on
behalf of those who
have been bullied.
 Aims to protect
friends.
5. Inadvertent Cyberbully
 Uses internet carelessly,
without considering potential
impact on others.
 Does not intentionally hurt
others
 May not realize it’s cyber
bullying.

Consequences of Cyber Bullying
 Anxiety
 Depression
 Suicide
 Stress Related Disorders
 Withdrawal from friends and
activities
 Changes in mood, behavior
and appetite.
How to help prevent cyberbullying
 Block all communication with
cyberbullies.
 Do not forward any messages
and comments that involve
cyberbullying.
 Always report any
cyberbullying taking place to
an adult.
How to help prevent cyberbullying
 Educating students is the best way
to teach children about the
seriousness of cyber bullying.
 Schools can take action with
discipline for in-school only.
 Teach students techniques for
calming down so that they do not
react with anger and revenge using
technology.

“ANTI-BULLYING ACT OF 2012”
APPROVED IN THE SENATE AND HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES ON JUNE 7, 2013
* It empowers the DepED to penalize schools
that do not stop bullying or sanction bullies.

* Authorize schools to impose sanctions on


student bullies.
HOUSE BILL NO. 5496
“ANTI-BULLYING ACT OF 2012”
All elementary and high schools would be
required to adopt anti-bullying policies and
sanctions, which would apply to prohibited acts
committed within their campuses at school
sponsored activities, whether done on or off
school grounds, school bus stops, school buses, or
other properties owned or leased by the school.
